iphone processing

A port of Processing based on javascript, Processing.js and a custom built canvas-object running on the iPhone. I was as impressed with the Processing.js implementation by John Resig as everyone else. And I naturally looked into the code to figure out how he had managed to do it. As he explains on his site, its all built around the browser canvas-object, and specifically the CanvasRenderingContext2D -object. I had a look at the specification for the context object and the methods that Processing.js are using and realized that there were only about 8-10 methods needed. So, I downloaded the JavaScript engine SpiderMonkey from Mozilla. With some inspiration from the Jiggy-project I configured and compiled it for the iphone. Then hooked it up with Processing.js, and wrote my own version of the context-object using OpenGL ES. During this process I had to rewrite parts of Processing.js in ObjC for performance reasons. Results? A hack of processing running on the iPhone with reasonable speed. Examples shown in this video are StoringInput, BouncyBubbles (changed to use iphone accelerometer) and Substrate.

Hacked Kinect sending OSC via Processing using iPad to define planes of interest.

At www.SuperTou.ch I get to have a lot of creative freedom, one late night I made this little demo in Processing using the hacked Kinect drivers. I'm also using an iPad to setup different planes of interest each with their own level of detail. The processing app is sending out OSC with depth information based on the level of detail and the defined plane. The iPad app is TouchOSC. For more information about using Kinect with your computer check out github.com HUGE thanks to the OpenKinect group and everyone who worked on the drivers and all the great people who continue to develop amazing stuff everyday. Supporting Scalable Online Statistical Processing

Google Tech Talks April, 28 2008 ABSTRACT Christopher Jermaine - RESEARCH SCIENTIST Query processing for analytic, statistical, and exploratory database queries has been an active area of database research and development for nearly two decades. Many experts now consider this problem to be "solved", especially with regard to performance. However, an argument can be made that users and databases have simply reached an uneasy truce with regard to analytic processing. If users avoid ad-hoc, exploratory queries that might take days to execute, then of course the database performs just fine. In this talk, I will describe query processing in a database system called DBO that is designed from the ground up to support interactive analytic processing. DBO can run database queries from start to finish and produce exact answers in a scalable fashion. However, unlike any existing research or production system, DBO is able to produce statistically meaningful approximate answers at all times throughout query execution. These answers are continuously updated from start to finish, even for "huge" queries requiring arbitrary quantities of temporary secondary storage. Thus, a user can stop execution whenever satisfied with the query accuracy, which may translate to dramatic time savings during exploratory processing. Speaker: Christopher M. Jermaine - Research Scientist Chris Jermaine is an assistant professor in the CISE Department at the University of Florida, where he studies databases ...

Part 1: GNU Parallel script processing and execution

GNU Parallel version 20100620 www.gnu.org is a shell tool for executing jobs in parallel locally or using remote machines. A job is typically a single command or a small script that has to be run for each of the lines in the input. The typical input is a list of files, a list of hosts, a list of users, a list of URLs, or a list of tables. If you use xargs today you will find GNU parallel very easy to use as GNU parallel is written to have the same options as xargs. If you write loops in shell, you will find GNU parallel may be able to replace most of the loops and make them run faster by running several jobs in parallel. If you use ppss or pexec you will find GNU parallel will often make the command easier to read. GNU parallel makes sure output from the commands is the same output as you would get had you run the commands sequentially. This makes it possible to use output from GNU parallel as input for other programs. For each line of input GNU parallel will execute command with the line as arguments. If no command is given, the line of input is executed. Several lines will be run in parallel. GNU parallel can often be used as a substitute for xargs or cat | bash.

Photoshop - Actions & Batch Processing

This video will discuss briefly how you would produce your own action scripts which you can apply to an image or series of images. Creating Actions is quite a vast area so please treat this as a starting point on how to produce Actions. Okay, so what the heck are "Actions"??? They are a series of commands that you perform on an image that you may wish to repeat in quick sucession. An example of this is if you wanted to watermark and copyright a large amount of images automatically. Normally you would have to do a series of steps in each image. With Actions you dont! What you do is "Record" your actions required once, then you have the commands stored so you can use them over and over again. So with this video sit back and watch how you would create actions and how you would apply them to multiple images.

Facebook in 3D with Processing

UPDATE February 4th 2011 Wow, I did this years ago and people are still asking how it's done. It's extremely simple yet you need to know what you're doing. First, you need to create an App in facebook, get an API and a secret key. When you do that, get to know the developer kit and start playing with it with a couple of PHP scripts. What does this have to do with Processing ? Well, with processing, you can then call loadStrings calling your PHP script that connects to Facebook. Of course you need to set authentification and so on but thats the basics. The php script will return some code that you can then parse in Processing. If you want to load images in your app (only if you created an applet) you need to sign the applet or else the images won't load correctly. I hope this helps someone someday! Now this was done in 2007 when Processing was in beta 125 and FB apps were not so popular. Nowadays, there's an easier way and you can call it directly. Here's tutorial : wiki.processing.org -------- Here is the Facebook application I did with Processing. It's only version 0.5 so it's not completely finished yet. Here's how it works. It loads my friends, my pictures and my groups in a 3D environment. User can navigate through the cloud of information either by using the mouse/keyboard or by using a Joystick Rumble Pad. Once the friends and the pictures are loaded, lines are drawn to the friends that were tagged in the images. User can also choose to show/hide different parts of ...
