Akshay versus Aamir, over Priyadarshan film
Priyadarshan is in a dilemma with two A-listers vying to be a part of his new project. Sources claim that Priyadarshan's next about AIDS, will do for HIV (in terms of evoking sympathy) what Taare Zameen Par did for dyslexia. "Percept Pictures, the film's producers believe that Aamir Khan after a successful TZP and a pan-India success rate at the box office would be apt for the role. But director Priyan has already discussed the role with his favourite Bollywood hero Akshay Kumar. Akshay, in turn, has loved the script and is more eager than ever to be a part of the project," "The AIDS script has turned out wonderfully. But Priyan is caught in a dilemma. Akshay is keen on doing the project. Percept is keen on doing the AIDS film with Aamir Khan, who has shown an interest in the film as well. Akshay on the other hand is not only willing to work immediately on the film but is also willing to produce it, Akshay is a very close friend. He is also Priyan's family now since Priyan's assistant Abhilash Nair is married to Akshay's cousin. More than that, Priyan and Akshay go back a long way professionally With the current producers, Percept keen to have Aamir on board and Amir interested in the project as well, the scales are tilted in Aamir's favour.

Superstar Aamir Khan is likely to feature in Priyadarshan's much-awaited film based on AIDS. "The project on AIDS is on, but the script is not yet ready... (I had) too many schedules and things to do so couldn't finish the script. I had discussed it with Aamir earlier and that time he wanted to do the film," the director told PTI April 30. The 55-year-old filmmaker has been talking about this project since 2009. It has been learnt that after Priyadarshan wraps up his current project, "Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal," he will start work on the untitled AIDS film, which will be without songs, comedy or commercial trappings. "If he has time he will do it," the National Award-winning director said. Earlier, filmmakers Revathy and Onir had explored this subject in their films "Phir Milenge" (2004) and "My Brother Nikhil" (2005), respectively. Neither film had a successful run at the box office, but they received critical acclaim.

The 1991 Priyadarshan directed malayalam movie "Abhimanyu" is a cult classic. The movie stars Mohanlal, Geetha and Shankar in lead roles. The movie captures the tale of transformation of an innocent guy into a criminal and subsequently into a don. The plot revolves around Mumbai underworld. The movie's music was composed by music director Raveendran and had lyrics written by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. The movie narrates the tale of Harikrishnan, an immigrant in Mumbai, who like many is struggling to meet both the ends. The murder of a benevolent don complicates the lives of Hari and many others living in the slums. The murder off shoots many events that act as a catalyst for Hari's transformation from an innocent guy to a crime lord. The movie won many Kerala State Awards notably Best Actor: Mohanlal, Best Editor: N.Gopalkrishnan, Best Sound Editor: Deepan Chatterji. The movie has created a fan base and cult status with the passing years. The tagline of the movie is that Crime Never Pays. The movie was later dubbed in hindi and released as ""Satyaghath-Crime Never Pays"".
