1455: Gutenberg Printing Press
The Printing Press that Revolutionized the World: Gutenberg and His Movable Type Though printing was in use long before goldsmith Johann Gutenberg's time—especially with the Chinese—Gutenberg made it available to the public through his movable type press. Although the press has no surviving blueprints, it is known that his machine was similar to the olive and wine presses—a wooden device based on a moving screw at the center, through which the operator could apply pressure to the object being manufactured. Gutenberg and his assistants would lay out the movable type, letter by letter, until it formed the page they desired to print. This type was housed in a wooden box, and was moistened with an oil-based ink. When the paper was laid on top of the type, and pressed with the wooden screw device, one page was printed. Although it still took a very long time to print each page, the process was faster than the hand-lettered books of the day, and still preserved the beautiful handwork of the scribes. Gutenberg's invention of the printing press also helped to spread the fires of the Protestant Reformation, as Bibles, books, and other written works were spread to the public and other printing firms began to be established. The Bible—the first item printed on his press—was the 42-line Latin Bible, a beautiful copy of the Scriptures and a monument to both printing and the Word of God.

An old , Single colour Edale flexographic printing press printing labels at StarLoc adhesives, we have 2 of these machines and use them to make return address labels (as were not very good at operating them we havent done anything more complex!) The machine runs a lot faster than this, its just that running flat out the registration onto precut labels starts to slip (as im not very good at setting it up!) 1st 1 built in 2004 more of a prototype. Had a lot of probs with it thats been ironed out. Set up to Australian safety standards. Origianilly a 8 colour now a 6 with top 2 decks dismantled. Machine ok on a operators point of view but aint no FISCHER & KRECKE. Newer models seem to have come a long way judging by some clips here on the tube

Another printmaking project done without a press. I teach this mostly to 3rd and 4th graders, but can be fun for any one. I used tempera paint to make the prints. The later prints normally look better than the first ones, but thats ok Stay away from washable glue or "school glue" it won't work well

DisreGuardian: UK press hunts Assange after printing cash
Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange may be in a legal fight against being sent to Sweden over sexual assault accusations, but he is also set for another UK court battle. He is threatening to bring a libel action against the Guardian newspaper, which helped release American war logs and secret diplomatic cables obtained by Wikileaks. Assange is understood to be angry at claims in a book the newspaper published about the whistle-blowing website. The book says Assange believed that informants mentioned in leaked war documents would deserve it, if they were killed as a result of the leaks. And as Laura Emmet has found out, this is not the only thing the Guardian has done to cause cracks in their relationship with Assange.
