I'm not trying to "save the earth". Rather, I'm simply attempting to save money, and minimize the impact that rising oil and energy prices have on my yearly cash outlays, and by inference, standard of living. This clever hot water heater offers relatively low cost of entry, sufficient output, and a short payback period. At current LP gas prices, it will take about four years to pay for the unit (less time if I qualify for tax rebates)(even less time if LP prices rise). Cost to produce hot water in the months with "long days" should be zero Dollars. With my limited experience to date, the use of LP gas to supplement hot water production in the winter months (during periods of extended cloud cover) should be minimal, based on my consumption requirements.

A million particles in a pressurized fluid
This is the result from one run of my fluid simulator, which I wrote over the course of several days for CS101 (GPU Programming) this year at Caltech. The simulator models the behavior of a pressurized fluid inside a cube of dimension 1 on each side. The pressure and velocity fields are stored as 3D textures with variable dimensions (which allows greater detail, at the expense of using more memory and running more slowly). Initially, there are a few "bubbles" of high pressure within the field, which even out, but push the particles with them. When particles leave the field, they're regenerated at random positions on one of the sides of the field. On the sides, there's a constant force in a counter-clockwise direction, and at the top, there's a small "hole" which pulls particles upward. These boundary conditions are expected to cause a tornado-like pattern to form, and indeed they do (eventually). This video was generated using a 128x128x128 grid (2097152 cells in total) and 1048576 particles. Using CUDA on my laptop's GPU, this took a little under ten minutes to render. It would have taken hours using only a CPU.

General presentation of the EPR: a generation III reactor model
The EPR™ reactor is a 1600 MW PWR. PWR technology represents 56% of the world's operational nuclear capacity (205 million kW out of a total of 368 as of 31/12/2005). 100 PWRs have been built by AREVA in 11 countries, of which 93 are still in operation. A number of technological advances put the EPR™ reactor at the forefront of reactor safety. These include additional systems to prevent core meltdown and innovation to mitigate its potential consequences. These technological advances also ensure high resistance to external hazards, in particular airplane crashes and earthquakes.
Alcohol Stoves
Ok first I want to say that I take no credit for most of the stoves, I did not desing them, I just made them. I did however desing the tin can stoves made out of tomato paste cans, as well as the wire filliment that boils the alcohol. First Stove: Needs a pot stand to cook with, is a top burner pressurized stove. Second Stove: Also requires a pot stand to cook, it is also a pressurized top burning stove. Third Stove: Does not need a pot stand to cook with, it is a pressurized side burner stove. Fourth Stove: Needs a pot stand to cook, it is a hybrid pressurized/open chimney stove. Fifth Stove: Needs a pot stand to cook, is is an open chimney stove. Sixth Stove: Does not need a pot to cook with, it is a pressurized side burner stove. Seventh Stove: Needs a pot stand to cook with, it is a pressurized top burner stove. Eighth Stove: Does not need a pot stand to cook, it is a low pressure side burner stove Ninth Stove: Does not need a pot stand to cook, it is a very slightly pressurized side burning stove. The metal coil inside it boils the alcohol to make it burn hotter. Boiling the water, it was minus three celcius outside and the stove burnt for a total of twenty minutes when completely filled. Took 15 minutes to boil 1000 ml of water with the crappy wind screen. Notice on the exploding stove I diddent put the screw in. Homemade Backpack Flamethrower Fun!
This is my homemade backpack flamethrower. It is actually a pretty simple device consisting of: A 5-gallon tank for gasoline, a small tank of argon to pressurize the gas tank to ~100 psi via a welding regulator, and a small propane tank to power the pilot light under the tip of the gun. To keep this as safe as possible I used argon to pressurize the gasoline tank because its an inert gas, so there is no chance of an explosion in the pressurized gasoline tank (no oxygen in tank = no boom). Interestingly, when the flamethrower gets low on gasoline and the argon starts to come out with the gas, it robs the gas of any surrounding oxygen and puts the flame out. NEVER USE COMPRESSED AIR TO PRESSURIZE A GASOLINE TANK! As with everything you do in life, I am not responsible if you try something based off of this video and natural selection works its mysterious magic by removing you from the gene pool.

Small Engine Repair: Checking Fuel Pump Diaphragm & Inlet Needle on a Diaphragm Carburetor
**Always follow the instructions in your repair manual when doing repair or maintenance work on Outdoor Power Equipment. Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** In this video I show how to check the fuel pump diaphragm and inlet needle for leaks on a diaphragm carburetor. A diaphragm carburetor is used on hand held power equipment, and are popular because they will work in any position. All chainsaws, trimmers and blowers that I have seen use a diaphragm carburetor. To check the fuel pump and inlet needle, pressurize the carburetor to 10 psi through the fuel inlet. The carburetor should hold the pressure fairly steady, and if it doesn't than there is a leak around the fuel pump diaphragm or inlet needle. You can pin point the leak by dunking the carburetor in water while it is pressurized. If the leak is around the fuel pump diaphragm, than either the fuel pump diaphragm, fuel pump diaphragm cover or the body of the carburetor is at fault. If the leak is coming out of the venturi, than the inlet needle or seat is faulty. Tools used: - 3/8" wrench to remove carburetor - Mityvac to pressurize the carburetor - Needle Nose plyers Specifications: - Carburetor should be pressurized to 10psi through the fuel inlet. Never exceed 10psi. Its important to run fuel through the carburetor before testing. A wet carburetor will hold the pressure better than a dry one.
