Elvis Presley - Hound Dog
On July 2, 1956, Elvis went into RCA's NYC studios to record "Hound Dog." It was the first song on which the vocal talents of the Jordanaires were used. Take #31 was selected by RCA for release. "Hound Dog" had a 28-week stay on Billboard's Top 100 chart, peaking at #2 for three weeks. The Platters' "My Prayer" and then Elvis' "Don't Be Cruel" kept "Hound Dog" from the top spot. The song was number one for three weeks on the Country Juke Box chart and number one for one week on the rhythm & blues chart. Sales in 1956 alone exceeded six million copies. This is the picture disc issue of "A Legendary Performer Vol. 3" from the 1970's, featuring the original mono release of "Hound Dog."

HIGH QUALITY (real video format). One Night # Comeback Special (1968) This was written by Dave Bartholomew and Dave King. Bartholomew wrote some of Fats Domino's hits, including "Walking To New Orleans," "Whole Lotta Lovin'" and "Blue Monday." Smiley Lewis originally recorded this in 1956. His version hit #11 on the R&B charts, but didn't crack the Pop charts. Elvis recorded this in February 1957. A year later, Elvis went into the army. During this time, Elvis was in Germany so his record company began releasing previously recorded tracks. In the US, this came out in 1958; in the UK it was released in 1959. It was Elvis' first song to reach the top of the UK charts after he went into the army. In January 2005 this was re-released in the UK to commemorate Elvis' 70th birthday. It went to #1, replacing Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock," which was also re-released. It became the fourth track ever to be #1 twice and only the third time in UK chart history that an artist has replaced themselves at the top of the charts. On January 24, 1957 Elvis recorded "One Night of Sin" at Radio Recorders. The risque' version was not released until 1983, when it appeared on the LP Elvis - A Legendary Performer, Volume 4. The cleaned-up version, take #10, was recorded a month later and released October 1958. Presley was inducted on March 28, 1958. "One Night" reached #4 on Billboards Hot 100 chart during its 17 week stay, and #10 on R&B's chart. In England it went to #1 and stayed at the top for 3 ...

"Jailhouse Rock" is a song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller that first became a hit for Elvis Presley. The song was first released as a 45rpm single on September 24, 1957, to coincide with the release of Presley's motion picture, Jailhouse Rock. Composer Mike Stoller can be seen playing piano in the film presentation of the song. The song as sung by Elvis Presley is #67 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[1] The single, with its B-side "Treat Me Nice," was a US #1 hit for 7 weeks in the fall of 1957, and a UK #1 hit for three weeks early in 1958. In 2005, the song was re-released in the UK and reached #1 for a single week. The song, which is an example of simple verse form, eventually sold four million copies in the US, thus earning a Double Platinum certification by the RIAA. Also in 1957, "Jailhouse Rock" was the lead song in an EP (extended play single), together with other songs from the film, namely "Young and Beautiful," "I Want to be Free," "Don't Leave Me Now," and "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care." It topped the Billboard EP charts, eventually selling an additional two million copies and earning another double-platinum RIAA certification.
