Filipa Sousa (27) experimented with Portugal's traditional musical style, Fado, for fun when she was 16, and hasn't stopped since. Being a Fado singer, she's been invited to sing for the Portuguese communities abroad, and thanks to her victory in the 2012 Festival Da Canção, she will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. Filipa Sousa was born on March 2, 1985, in Albufeira. Her musical dreams started early at the age of 6, she started learning music, and later entered the Conservatory. From the age of 12, she started participating in festivals and karaoke contests, in which she won a few prizes and several amateur Fado competitions in the Algarve. After Filipa participated in workshops and theatre plays, she became part of the Fado group Al-Mouraria in 2003, and performed in various parts of the country, Spain and Morocco, and in TV shows. In 2007 she managed to get into the casting show Operação Triunfo, in which she remained for seven weeks, getting a very positive reaction. In April 2008, she won the 1st Big Fado Soirée of the Algarve, in Loulé. In May 2010, she participated in the gala nights Nasci para o Fado (I Was Born For Fado), broadcast by the RTP, and whose goal was to select artists for the musical Fado: História de um Povo (Fado: The History of a People), by Filipe La Féria. Every major tournament has one section that's fiendishly difficult to predict... one pool packed full of evenly matched contenders, a veritable group of death. Ten years on, is it a success story for other nations to follow? On the streets of Lisbon drug users light up wherever they want. One police officer tells us the girl across the street is smoking crack. He complains, but few share his sentiment. "Considering drug users as criminals just because they are using drugs is not a very realistic approach", a Portuguese drug addiction officer argues. He has just had an interview with a sixteen-year-old boy caught smoking hashish. No punishment was handed out, just advice. In Portugal it's now seen as a health problem, rather than a criminal one. Brendan Hughes of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs says it is very difficult to analyse the success of the law. He points to one very interesting fact: "In 10 years of governments in Portugal, where they have changed from left to centre-right to left, back to centre-right, drugs have stayed off the agenda". Due to the economic crisis, funding for the rehabilitation of drug offenders is going to be very seriously hit. For Dr Goulao, the public face of the law, it comes at the worst possible time. Drought hammers Spain, Portugal
www.euronews.com Large parts of Spain and Portugal are desperate for rain, nearing the end of the driest Iberian winter in more than 70 years. Spain got less than 30 percent of its normal precipitation this winter. With both countries in the middle of an economic crisis, many people feel it could not come at a worse time. Thousands of jobs and many millions of euros of agricultural output are threatened by this. Farmers who can are irrigating where rain usually does the job. Farmer José Manuel Allue said: "If it doesn't rain in two to three days, and the weather forecast says it won't, there is no solution for the crops. As there's very little water, we'll see what happens with fruit and vegetables. This latest catastrophe means a lot more people are going to be out of work in the farming sector. We have no idea how we are going to be by the end of the year." In the Mediano reservoir in Huesca, in the northwest of Spain, stored water used to submerge an abandoned church. At the moment, the front steps are dry. One year ago, on average, the country's reservoirs were 80 percent full. Weather expert Ángel Ribera said: "Spain goes through a cycle of drought. What is surprising about this time is how extreme it's been over the last three months. There hasn't been a drop of rain in many parts of Spain. Angolans invest in Portugal's sinking banks
Once Angola was an impoverished part of the Portuguese empire, now its oil wealth means its citizens are queuing to buy everything from vineyards to property in the former colonial power. There are many Africans in Lisbon, often coming from other former colonies, but the ones with serious money to spend are the ones from Angola. Next to the Russians and Chinese, they are the favourite clients of the luxury goods stores. Portugals banks, many in difficulty, have also become prime targets for Angolan investors. The growth in economic ties between Portugal and Angola works both ways. Angola is now one of the largest destinations for Portuguese exports, and thousands of Portuguese are emigrating to Angola every month to look for work. Read the blog: www.eurodestination.com We arrived in Portugal on a stormy day hoping that it would all clear so that we can come out with some decent images. The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

The fortress still exists nowadays side by side with the Sanctuary of Senhora da Piedade, the stage of an annual procession (in May) heading to the town and coming back a few days later. Both of these landmarks form enchanting scenery, surrounded by imposing cliffs and a popular river beach at their feet. The council, rich in history and monuments, presents a typical rural identity quite typical and genuine that has always been influenced by the desires and the benefits of the mountain.
