Travel Ponce, Puerto Rico: Pedestrian shopping street
Just south of Arecibo we started to drive south on Highway 10 to cross the islands main mountain range, the "Cordillera Central", in order to reach the island's south coast. Although the island is only 35 miles (about 50 km) wide, it can take hours to cross the island, especially after the main highway ends. We had to get onto narrow local roads that snake around the mountains and took us past local towns such as Utuado and Adjuntas. We could barely go faster than 25, 30 km/h and it was fascinating to see modest local houses patched up against the steep tropical mountain sides. It took us about 2.5 hours to reach the south coast and the second largest city of Puerto Rico: Ponce, also called "Ciudad de los leones" (City of Lions) or "La Perla del Sur" (Pearl of the South). Ponce has a beautiful main square, Plaza de las Delicias, which features the Ponce Cathedral and the Parque de Bombas, a red and black striped wooden building built in 1883 that used to house the city's main fire station. Several classical buildings frame the square, among others the Alcaldia (City Hall) and several bank buildings. To get back to Dorado we went on Highway 52 which took us right into the crazy traffic of San Juan again, so the trip from Ponce to Dorado took us almost three hours.

Impeachment court subpoenas SC clerk of court, 12 others KIMBERLY JANE TAN, GMA News January 18, 2012 10:03am (Updated 11:25 am) The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, has subpoenad the Supreme Court clerk of court and 12 others to testify during the imepachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. In a phone interview with GMA News Online, impeachment spokesperson Valentina Cruz confirmed that they served on Monday the subpoenas for the SC clerk of court and 12 other witnesses who will be presented by the House prosecution team later in the day. "Sinerve namin kahapon [yung subpoenas] for those who were [asked] to appear today [Wednesday]," Cruz said. The House prosecution team had asked the impeachment court to subpoena Supreme Court clerk of court Atty. Enriqueta Esguerra-Vidal and bring with her copies of Corona's Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth from 2002 to 2011. Also asked to testify were the registers of deeds and city assessors of Quezon City, Marikina City, Makati City, Taguig City, Pasay City, and Paranaque City. The House prosecution team earlier asked the Senate to ask these government employees to bring with them documents related to the properties supposedly obtained by the chief justice and his family. The 13 witnesses will be made to testify on Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which accuses Corona of failure to disclose his SALN. In connection with this, the prosecution had also earlier revealed that Corona allegedly owns 45 ...
