Poem

Here's a little poem I wrote over 11 years ago. Before you ask, it was inspired by a girl, but the actual events that took place don't match the poem exactly. Anyway, I was trying to go to sleep one night and kept tossing and turning with these words running through my head. I couldn't get to sleep until I got up and put the words down on paper. I have written other poems, but I am most proud of this one. The music over this video is by Enya and it is titled "March of the Celts". With writing poems and listening to Enya, I guess I should also let you guys know that I am completely straight. (Just thought I'd add that in) For you my love's been growing from the day that we first met. You have always had my heart, but your heart I could not get. We became the best of friends but I kept my love inside, because I didn't want to take the chance of having it denied. And then one day I got the nerve to tell you how I feel 'cause all the love I had for you could no longer be concealed. To my surprise you told me that you wanted more yourself, but as friends we grew too close to take a chance at something else. You said that I was like your brother knowing secrets from your past and if we took a chance as lovers, then our friendship wouldn't last. I listened to your words, but to me they made no sense. So to try to stop the pain inside I took up a defense. I told myself that there are other fish in the sea, and a girl would have to be a fool to deny a guy like me. I thought I ...

Rumi: Say I Am You (Sufi poem)

Rumi's poems elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go beyond our limitations towards the Divine. The music: The credits do appear at the end of this video, but it is by the composer, Eleni Karaindrou, and is the theme music called "Eternity and a Day" from the movie, Aggelopoulos. A note on the music: This entire video was constructed in silence-only the poem and the images were put together without my knowing what music would be the right one. The music is so important to the interpretation of these poems. Rather than reading them, the music is my voice. When I 'laid' this beautiful piece of music over the video it fit perfectly. Few edits were made to accomodate the images to fit the music. They seem to be made for each other. Note for those who overlook the message and want to 'claim' Rumi as their own (country, nationality, language) they've missed the point completely and these comments will be deleted. 5 Poems by James Wright

James Wright 1927-1980 Neither of James Wright's parents attended school beyond the eighth grade. His father endured lay offs during the 50 years he worked at the Hazel-Atlas glass factory. His mother worked in a laundry after leaving school at fourteen. James Arlington Wright was born in the steel town of Martins Ferry, Ohio December 13, 1927. Bordering West Virginia and Pennsylvania, this area of the Ohio River Valley is highly industrialized. Wright's high school graduation was delayed a year after he suffered a nervous breakdown when he was sixteen. He served in the Army in Japan during WWII, then attended Kenyon College on the GI Bill where studied under John Crowe Ransom. Ransom's emphasis on traditional meter and prosody influenced Wright's early work. After graduating with honors, he studied at University of Vienna on a Fulbright Fellowship. He then returned to the US to earn master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Washington where he studied with Theodore Roethke and Stanley Kunitz. The hardships Wright witnessed growing up never left him. Donald Hall met James Wright in 1954 and writes in the introduction to Above The River, the Complete Poems, that Wright suffered from a bipolar mood disorder and that he used alcohol as a self medication. Hall recalls an August visit during which Wright was intensely nervous. He says he spoke without stopping and his good nature eventually turned blackduring the visit when Wright made a speech about how he would ...

Geronimo E-KIA, a poem by the 1491s

Accompanying music by A Tribe Called Red On May 1st around 3:30pm President Obama received a message from a Navy SEAL saying "Geronimo- E KIA" the code meaning Osama bin Laden is dead. We humbly disagree. Geronimo was a product of his environment. A human. One with flaws. One with enough history that the person charged with defining who he is can shape the narrative any which way he likes. People chase him today, just as they did then. His story, or peoples versions of it, lead us to this point where we are today. But this poem isn't about Geronimo is it? Don't confuse the war with the warrior. Support your soldiers and veterans

Forgetfulness - Billy Collins Animated Poetry

View poetry in an entirely new and innovative way. Billy Collins, former US Poet Laureate and one of America's best-selling poets, reads his poem "Forgetfulness" with animation by Julian Grey of Headgear. Noted for their intelligent humor, accessibility and observations on daily life, Collins' popular poems come alive further in a series of animated poems produced by JWT-NY. - - - - - - The Poem - The name of the author is the first to go followed obediently by the title, the plot, the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel which suddenly becomes one you have never read, never even heard of, as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain, to a little fishing village where there are no phones. Long ago you kissed the names of the nine Muses goodbye and watched the quadratic equation pack its bag, and even now as you memorize the order of the planets, something else is slipping away, a state flower perhaps, the address of an uncle, the capital of Paraguay. Whatever it is you are struggling to remember, it is not poised on the tip of your tongue, not even lurking in some obscure corner of your spleen. It has floated away down a dark mythological river whose name begins with an L as far as you can recall, well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those who have even forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle. No wonder you rise in the middle of the night to look up the date of a famous battle in ...

Robert Burns - To A Mouse - Poem

Robert Burns' To A Mouse presented by David Sibbald of www.robertburns.plus.com from his CD "The Greatest Poems in the World." set to photos of Scotland and edited by Peggy Edwards (AKA Peigi McCann). To A Mouse. On turning her up in her nest with the plough, November 1785. Wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim'rous beastie, O, what a panic's in thy breastie! Thou need na start awa sae hasty Wi bickering brattle! I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee, Wi' murdering pattle. Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste, An' weary winter comin fast, An' cozie here, beneath the blast, Thou thought to dwell, Till crash! the cruel coulter past Out thro' thy cell. That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble, Has cost thee monie a weary nibble! Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble, But house or hald, To thole the winter's sleety dribble, An' cranreuch cauld.
