My Top 10 Cinematic Platformers
After a whole month of doing my very best to promote Cinematic Platformers, I'm here to finally give you guys My Top 10 Cinematic Platformers. By which it's a 2D Platformer subgenre that takes interactive gameplay and made everything cinematic. I know you probably heard me say this many times, but for more information on Cinematic Platformers, take a look at Video Game Genres - Cinematic Platformers to understand what the genre is about. www.youtube.com I know I only did three videos on Cinematic Platformers, but it was a lot of hard work getting everything recorded and doing research before doing my videos and it feels a little incomplete doing a Top 10 with a lot of reviews left undone. So here it is, "My Top 10 Cinematic Platformers" in which I'm doing my very best to put tribute to all the games in this category of games in it's full potential and respect that it deserves! UPDATE: My next video is finally my Duke Nukem 3D review. I know I've been keeping you guys waiting for that review to be done, but it's finally coming. Also, after that, I'll be working VERY hard on this Platinum Platformer Awards to give off my personal opinion on what is my favorite Platformer of the Year 2010! Video Game Genres - 3D Platformer
(Episode 1) This is the first episode of this new monthly series that I'm doing. That is Video Game Genre because we have SO many video games put in a category where they have a lot of similarities and should not be ignored. The first episode of Video Game Genre is my favorite genre in gaming; 3D Platformers/Platform Games. 1) This is where I first discuss about the brief history from where the genre originated and was created for what it is today. 2) What every 3D Platformer has in common that made it a 3D Platformer. 3) Mention the pro & cons 4) And talk about my overall opinion of 3D Platformers, or Platform games in genreal. For those who waited for this video, sorry for the delay, but this video took me an entire week to do so if I miss anything, don't bother to mention it. I'll be doing more of video game genres videos in the coming future, not a weekly thing, but rather wait for a new episode of this series for a month or two. Picture this scenario: 18 people gathered around a long, white table located somewhere in the basement of the GameSpot offices. After a tense, passionate, and illuminating argument that stretches on for almost 20 minutes, we are ordered to vote for a winner. A show of hands decides which game will be labeled The Best Platformer of 2011 and which will be relegated to "happy to be nominated" status. Torque X Platformer Starter Kit
This video shows the GarageGames Torque X Platformer Starter Kit in action. The first part of this video shows the entire level building process in one continuous recording and is sped up about 3x normal speed. The whole level building process took just under 30 minutes. The tool being used is Torque X Game Builder. The second part of the video shows off a little bit of gameplay on the level that was created. This was recorded on Windows, but can be deployed in seconds to a retail XBox 360 console. There is no "behind the scenes" editing that takes place. Every action performed on the level that's used is shown in the first part of the video. All assets seen in this video are included with the starter kit. Platinum Platformer Awards 2010 (Final Round)
Now that end is near, I want to be ver clear, this is my opinion! I know that I upset a lot of people with my decisions in the other rounds. Just to let you know that not everyone has the same opinion as every other and since this is my award ceremony, this is my official decision of my favorite Platformer of 2010... minus Limbo. BUT BEFORE WE NAME THE WINNER... I'm going to rant with every one of the standing nominees of the Final Round showing you guys my frustrations, issues, and problems I have with these games because I have a ton of them! Clever game play mixed with Bionic Commando style swinging and some hack and slashing make this one a great find for anyone looking to dig into a 2D style platformer (although the levels have a tremendous amount of 3D depth).
