Longleaf pine forests once dominated the United States southern landscape from southeast Virginia to eastern Texas. But after decades of logging and fire suppression, restoring these towering conifers — and the rare species they sustain—could prove to be a tall order. The Nature Conservancy is working across the Southeast to conserve remaining longleaf-pine forests and restore degraded ones.

Lund, Sweden, May 12, 2009 Artifacts indicating human activity found in 10 000 years old drowned pine forest This weekend divers made unique findings in the woods outside eastern Skåne which most likely represents traces of human activities. Arne Sjöström, diver and archaeologist, has encountered a 4x2 meters wooden structure on the subsea peat banks. This unique finding is probably a big fish trap. They have also found torch and charcoal residues in the bottom layers of the mud banks, as well as very typical round stones that most certainly were used as weights for fishing nets. The archeologist says that everything points to that there should be dwellings nearby. If their assumptions are correct, it will be the oldest fishing gear found on the seabed off the Swedish coast. Its age will be determined by the C 14-method in the near future, but it is suspected to be 8 000-10 000 years old. The pine forest at the bottom of the sea is still not completely mapped, but it is estimated to be several square kilometers wide, extending out to at least 30 meters deep. The absence of ship worm in the Baltic Sea makes everything surprisingly well preserved, even though it is up to 10 000 years old. "The trees are almost as new when you bring them to surface, with the root system and everything intact." says Kjell Andersson, research engineer at the Lund Institute of Technology. Fire Danger - Smouldering Ashes in a Pine Forest
My friend and I encountered smouldering embers on a walk to some new woods. The place looked like it had been well used but not for a while. The danger in Pine forest is that you can ignite the root system which can then lead to the whole area burning down. We put out the hot ashes by using some animal feeding buckets that are dotted about all over the area to collect some water about a hundred metres away down in a steep valley. It was tiring work but we managed to saturate the ground and put out the embers. Hopefully the root system is not burning underground.

Hoke County's Tarique Thompson wasn't with the Bucks this summer when they met Pine Forest during offseason workouts. After Thursday night, Pine Forest coach David May likely wished Thompson was still missing from the Buck lineup. Thompson sparked Hoke to a 10-point lead in the second half, and the Bucks held off a fierce Trojan rally for a 49-47 win in the 4-A Eastern Regional semifinals at the Crown Arena. The win sends Hoke (25-2) into Saturday's 4 pm regional final against Wilmington New Hanover. New Hanover (28-1) advanced by winning Thursday's first regional semifinal over Raleigh Millbrook, 42-40. Thursday's game was played before a standing-room-only crowd at the arena. Fans standing in line outside the arena at 9 pm still trying to get in were turned away. Unofficial estimates were some 200 spectators were unable to get in the game. They missed a classic that went down to the final shot. "They've won all sorts of ways,'' Hoke coach Quame Patterson said of the Trojans. "We were just trying to stay in the game, to see if we got a win when the buzzer went off.'' The final outcome wound up in the hands of Pine Forest's leading scorer for the season, Alex Bradley. Bradley played with flu-like symptoms and May said had it not been a playoff game, he would have benched him. PINE FOREST APARTMENTS IN HOUSTON ON CLAY RD very horrible place to live. no hot water for over a year and its no joke!! mold inside many of the apartments, holes on the walls due to humidity, many wasp nest and spiders specially inside the empty apartments....yes, more than one wasp nest inside empty apartments; awful manager and by the way in a period of four months they had 3 different managers being fired for stealing money from the company; the two maintanance wont do their job but specially the short hispanic guy with the cap on his head who i kinda wanna say thanx to him for revealing most of the truth that's going on in that property including the truth about the actual manager stealing money from the property. deposit money. whenever they do turn on the old ass water heater(which it happens for one day every 2 or three months)twice it happened that it brakes down leaving the apartment smelling like gas and both times it happened in the afternoon. now i imagine if it would have happened at 3 or 4AM? a few people would have been dead due to the gas. how irresponsable can that management be?????????? and guess what?? that old water heater is still there with a red tag from the fire marshall to be fixed, tag is gone and the water heater is still off not fixed......no hot water.

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest - Trumpet Experiment
This video was taken in the ancient bristlecone pine forest which is located in the White Mountains, above Bishop and Big Pine, CA. The large tree to my right in the video in a living ancient bristlecone, but most likely a young one of perhaps 2000 to 3000 years old. They are known to live as long as 5000 years old and are the oldest living organisms known to man. My father took me here as a young boy, and I decided to return with the trumpet and play into the hills. The echo was quite impressive, but I don't think it can be heard in the video. Once again I'm posting this for fun. My trumpet playing isn't anything special, and this video was taken at 14246 feet where there isn't so much air. My diaphragm actually started cramping twards the end of the session, as I had been fasting the day before and was low on air. Either was I hope you all enjoy it. In all their years of life, I wonder how many times the ancient birstlecones got to hear a loud trumpet?

Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest
short tour of a small part of the Schulman Grove section of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest in the White Mountains section of Inyo. As usual, apologies for my shaky camera work. These trees are up to 4000 years old. Notice very little else grows where they survive, filmed from ~10 000 feet elevation, the mtns here reach 12000 ft with a 14000 ft peak a few miles away. A Red Tail hawk glides by, but it leaves quickly as there is little to no food up here- you barely even hear any insects. Some of the trees look dead, stripped, twisted, otherwise troubled- that is just how they are- survivors, of anything. Split open by lightning, burned in fires, they just live on. These trees have waited a LONG time for you to see them, enjoy....
