Walter Payton- Best Running Back Ever
There have been many great running backs in NFL history, and you could make a case with any number of them. Jim Brown comes to mind, along with such greats as Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and LaDainian Tomlinson. But for sheer physical ability and the list of accomplishments achieved, there can be only one that can be called the greatest: Walter Payton. When Walter Payton joined the Chicago Bears in 1975, he was destined to become not just the main focus of the Bears' offense, but the cornerstone on which the offense was built. They called him "Sweetness," but on the gridiron, he was anything but. Payton joined a mediocre Bears team that would improve largely due to his offensive exploits. Being the workhorse was not without its drawbacks though. Payton had the proverbial bulls eye on his back, with opposing teams understanding that if Payton were stopped, then the Bears were stopped. As game as Payton was, the beating he took every week took its toll. Archive interview footage that can be found on the Web shows Payton with reporters, questioning whether he could keep up the weekly punishment. In the end, not only did he effectively deal with the weekly pounding, but became better as he went along. His powerful physique, especially his legs, allowed him to go head to head and come out on top against the toughest defenders in the league, and there have been many a hapless defensive back that learned their lesson the hard way. Blue Note Record's Magnificent 7: Payton, Wilson, Coltrane, Charlap, Washington, Bernstein and Nash
Blue Note Records is a jazz record label, established in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis. Francis Wolff became involved shortly afterwards. It derives its name from the characteristic "blue notes" of jazz and the blues. At the end of the 1950s, and in the early 1960s, Blue Note headquarters were located in New York City, at 43 W 61st Street. The label is currently owned by the EMI Group and in 2006 was expanded to fill the role of an umbrella label group bringing together a wide variety of EMI-owned labels and imprints specializing in the growing market segment of music for adults. Historically, Blue Note has principally been associated with the "hard bop" style of jazz (mixing bebop with other forms of music including soul, blues, rhythm and blues and gospel). Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson, Donald Byrd and Grant Green were among the label's leading artists, but almost all the important musicians in postwar jazz recorded for Blue Note on occasion, albeit most often only once. Gary Payton: Tough Battle vs. KJ and Suns (1997 Playoffs)
www.basketball-reference.com 1997 NBA First Round Game 4 Gary Payton had 28 points, 14 assists in a hard fought OT win against the Suns to tie the first round series up at 2. Detlef Schrempf had a great game as well. Shawn Kemp, despite foul trouble, hauled in a crazy amount of rebounds. Payton led the Seattle offense early with 5 three pointers and 20 points in the first half. He fell out of the offense in the 3rd quarter but reasserted himself when the Sonics big lead began to dwindle. Rex Chapman's three point heave makes this game memorable. Phoenix had all the momentum going into overtime but Payton kept the Seattle offense composed and they eventually ran away from the sporadic Suns. Uploading this on Father's Day as Gary Payton is my Dad's all time favorite player.
