As many of you perceptive viewers noticed there were a couple alcohol-induced scientific errors in my last version of this song (gold star, perceptive viewers!) -- so I thought this St. Patrick's day would be a perfect time to correct them. Someone had no more use for this dog. They had starved it to near death, put it in a garbage bag and threw it down the garbage chute. A maintenance worker cleans out the bin every few days and on Wednesday, March 16th, they were cleaning out the contents of the container to go directly into a trash compacter. The bag moved a little and the worker opened it to find a moribund dog inside -- pathetically thin, cold and near death. The City of Newark Animal Control was contacted and ACO Arthur Skinner picked up the dog and brought him directly to the Society. The veterinary staff immediately put him on intravenous fluid.His temperature was so low that it did not even register on the thermometer. He was covered with heating pads and blankets. Society vet tech Gina DeSalvo held the pit bull in her arms -- she soothed him, gave him warmth, comfort and bits of food. From that moment on, he looked up with gratitude in his eyes to all of the staff. After a brief time at the Society's Newark facility, he was ambulanced to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls -- a referral hospital with 24 hour emergency care. If he died during that night, we feel he would know that everyone loved and cared about him and treated him gently and lovingly. He amazed everyone ...

This two part sequence features a few highlights from his appearance at the Musician's Institute in 1996. Some of the more dramatic events going on behind the scenes included Patrick's Korg keyboard inconveniently crashing earlier in the day, then scrambling throughout Hollywood in the late afternoon to find a worthy substitute. Finding one at the last minute, it meant he had no time to reprogram it's settings and features to his own preferences. And, at some point in the day he also lost his reading glasses, which doubled the difficulty of choosing specific settings while performing. Despite the difficulties, the show did go on.

Tourism Ireland, together with the 100-member newchoir, Maureen's Reel Irish Dancers and the Celtic Dance Centre, surprised and delighted an unsuspecting public with a Glee-style performance of Irish favourites "Beautiful Day" by U2, "Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison and "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. Homemade marshmallows - St. Patrick's day green! :)
If you have concerns about the uncooked eggwhites (makes these marshmallows softer, lighter and fluffier) use dried egg white powder (as per recipe link below). You can also find many recipes that don't use the egg whites, just do an internet or You Tube video search. I mention these can be kept at room temperature, this would only be okay for a couple of days, if you plan on taking longer than that to consume them I would keep them in the refrigerator. Found this one on this website: smittenkitchen.com Some great photos and instructions there, go check it out. This recipe recommends a tablespoon of vanilla extract, I found this too strong of a vanilla flavour (with my homemade vanilla) I recommend 1-2 teaspoons only My original intention was to make these for the Gir cupcake www.youtube.com and for St. Patrick's day cupcakes, put the shamrocks I cut out were too big and too thick to use. You can pour the mixture onto a cookie sheet make it thinner if you plan on cutting out shapes for decorating cake/cupcakes with. Coming up.... Carlos Núnez (born Vigo, Galicia, [Galiza] 1971) is a Galician musician who plays the gaita, the traditional Galician bagpipe. Nunez was born in 1971 in the city of Vigo and began playing the bagpipes when he was eight years old. In his early teens, he was invited to play with the Festival Orchestra of the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany. He studied the recorder at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid, Spain, and quickly gained stature as a young virtuoso. He met Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains and performed with the band two years later, becoming referred to as the "7th member" of the band. He appeared on their Grammy-winning Santiago, which focused on Galician music and included other artists such as Los Lobos and Linda Ronstadt. He has become an integral part of the Galician Celtic music scene, and has collaborated with Ry Cooder, Sinéad O'Connor, The Chieftains, Altan and La Vieja Trova Santiaguera. His most renowned album was 1996's A Irmandade Das Estrelas, which sold an unprecedented 100000 copies, and included collaborations with Nightnoise, Luz Casal, Tino di Geraldo, Tríona Ní Domhnaill and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, Kepa Junkera, Ry Cooder, The Chieftains, and Dulce Pontes. He has since moved on to including elements of Berber music and flamenco, as well as more pronounced Celtic, especially Breton, influences.
