How to Make a Paper Crossbow
I noticed that there was no decent tutorial out there for making a paper crossbow that didn't utilize rubber bands. This is what I came up with as a result. The crossbow is actually quite durable in design and should stand up to use for for a very long time so long as it doesn't get wet. Hopefully a good deal of office boredom can be solved with this. The working mechanism for this crossbow is in the arms made of rolled paper and supported by tape. Typically a bent tube of rolled paper would tear when bent, but a layer of tape seems to distribute the load evenly enough to not only prevent the paper from tearing, but also give it a strong and fast spring action when released. This allows for a rigid bow string to be used which utilizes the energy in the arms to propel the projectile - Rather than most toy crossbows which use rigid arms and an elastic band which propels the bolt more like a slingshot than a crossbow. This crossbow can throw a pencil or pen a good 100 feet. A possible modification for even more power might be to make two arms on each side that the bow string would tie together at the tips. Having double arms is about the only way to go about adding more power because adding much more paper to the first set will only result in them tearing or being completely rigid. How to Make a Paper Balloon (Water Bomb) - Origami
In this video, I explain how to make a Paper Balloon, also known as the Water Bomb. All that is required is a piece of printer paper (any size should work). Scissors are optional, but make things a little easier if the paper is not already square. WATER BOMB - To make this a water bomb: COLOR the OUTSIDE of the water bomb once you finish with a crayon or other type of wax material. Open up the small hole with a pencil to make it wider. Then, create a slow, fine stream of water at the sink. Try not to get the outside of the balloon wet when filling. Do NOT fill the balloon too much, or it will leak faster. Explains how to turn a piece of printer paper into an origami crane. It involves some new and advanced folds which I go through step by step on how to perform. Hope you enjoy! Traditionally, the Japanese crane is expanded at the very end, although I usually prefer not to do this. To do this, you can perform the following: 1) Just grab each wing and pull them gently apart until the middle part inflates or expands, or 2) try blowing on the bottom of the crane to inflate it that way (doesn't work as well for me). Get the template at my website (in PDF) www.deanying.com So I was wanting to watch Napoleon Dynamite. But I didn't have a way to prop up my iPhone. I went online to look for instructions on creating any kind of make-shift stand but all I came up with was some triangle thing made out of a dollar bill and also a retail item called the Bat Rest. The Bat Rest is a great idea... but I wanted something NOW. Anyway, long story short, after a couple of failures, I came up with this shape. FAQs: Will it scratch my phone? No it won't scratch your iphone if you do it right. Check out the video responses to see the stand done with the plastic-coated paper clips. Also notice how the ends of the paper clip are bent outwards so when you rest the phone on the stand properly, those tips don't even touch your phone.
