Mandala (A Musical Palindrome), by Daniel Starr-Tambor
With more than 62 vigintillion individual notes, "Mandala" is the longest palindrome in existence. Composed using the first nine partials of the Natural Harmonic Series repeating at the accelerated tempos of our solar system, Mandala would continue without repetition for over 532.25 septendecillion years. In homage to "Art of the Fugue" by JS Bach, "Mandala" has been crafted to include the "musical signature" of it's author: the stereo imaging is arranged to reflect the exact position of the solar system at the moment of his birth, from the perspective of the Sun as it faces the constellation Libra, so that each note chronicles his birthday on every planet.

Mallet-justment: A Musical Palindrome
Composed by Scott Pfitzinger. Performed 19 April 2010 by Emilio Buonanni (marimba). A palindrome is a word or phrase that reads the same way forwards and backwards. Mallet-justment is a scherzo-like piece in the form of a palindrome. Not a perfect palindrome, though, because that would become too mechanical. Instead, it is a 7-part rondo form where the "A" section (in ABACABA) is a palindrome in itself while making the entire piece become a type of palindrome. The full range of the marimba is explored in this technically challenging piece. (Sorry for the extra 50 seconds at the beginning. I haven't found a video editor that can handle the format from our camera without hurting the sound quality.)

Palindrome
Here is my student film from 1993. It's a Palindrome. It can be played forwards and backwards and it the same movie. I haven't really looked at this in 10 years. Lots of parts hold up, lots of parts don't. If I could go back in time and talk to myself at the age of twenty -- I'd to cut the whole heavy handed Kuleshav crap and to cut out some of the more maudlin lines. But what are you gonna do. Enjoy PS Almost 15 years has gone by since I made this film. I am happy to say I think I look better in my underwear at 35 than I did at 20.
