Oct 2003 Alaska's rich waters are famous for their plentiful supply of fish. But now overfishing is threatening to destroy this precious ecosystem. The Gulf of Alaska is home to the magnificent Stellar Sea Lion -- a mammal who for centuries has lived from this 'sea of plenty'. But as over-fishing has spiralled out of control, the sea lions can no longer find food.The decline of the Stellar Sea Lion has prompted the introduction of tougher fishing regulations in an attempt to halt a worldwide crisis. However local fisheries have been angered by the move which threatens their livelihood. Environmentalists see things differently. "The fishermen will put themselves out of business if they continue," alleges Ken Stump "if we remove fewer fish now then we will have more for the indefinite future." To make matters worse, fishermen who have spent years carefully controlling certain species such as wild salmon are finding themselves ousted from the market with the introduction of cheaper 'farmed' fish. They are struggling to keep afloat "We are trying to live through this. We will not be giving up."

Keeping over 200 playful and intelligent penguins entertained can be a challenge, but keepers at Edinburgh Zoo are experts at penguin enrichment. This week they treated the penguin colony to a shower of bubbles from the popular bubble making machine. During a snowfall our penguins will chase snowflakes and try to catch them, in much the same way as they do with the bubbles. Edinburgh Zoo is home to the largest outdoor penguin pool in Europe and the resident penguin colony includes three varieties of penguins—Kings, Rockhoppers and Gentoos. We had to help so we stopped casting went over to the muskie and struggled to rescue it once we got the fish out of its jaws we revived the muskellunge and it swam away. A few rune stones, a market place, long houses and ships both in water and being built. Factors such as over-fishing, a parasite, changes in the Gulf Stream, pollution, and obstructions to migration, are thought to have contributed to this decline Many organisations are working to safeguard the future of the European eel, through research, such as that conducted by London Zoo, and by installing eel passes over weir obstructions. The Thames Rivers Restoration Trust is working with the partners to install eel passes on the weirs on the River Brent in northwest London.

Postspawn Fishing On Lake Lanier
Fishing on Lake Lanier over Memorial Day weekend for some unpredictable postspawn spots. We managed to catch a few but only filmed three, all of the fish we've been catching lately are skinny pounders. caught a fat little 1 1/4lber on a Wackem Big Sissy in Cotton Candy rigged on a drop shot with a 1/4oz weight. Also caught a 3/4lber on a 3/8oz Booyah Blade spinnerbait in White. Our biggest fish today was a nice spot that weighed just over 2lbs on a Wackem 4'' prototype swimbait rigged on a Sworming Hornet 3/8oz Fish Head Spin. We were fishing brushpiles in 15-35ft of water. Most of the fish were suspending just sbove the brush so we were fishing the FHS and Spinnerbait just above it. With the drop shot we'd also fish it a little deeper and mainly fished it vertically or shot pitched it. I also used the LJ's Passion Big Sissy later when it got darker, got a few bites, but never got'em in the boat. In the morning we fished Sammys and Wake Baits but topwater bit wasn't present today. !5 lb fluro for the FHS & Spinnerbait and 6lb Fluro with the drop shot. These marks are well protected due to the large distances, and only fished once a year by us anyhow. The trophy Red emperor are getting harder to find and makes these trips all the worthwhile. MV Eupen passing fish boat Columbia River
A miss is as good as a mile, I guess. This video shows how closely large ships pass fishing boats anchored on the Columbia River. The fishing boat was anchored on the edge of the channel and its skipper was convinced he was safe at that location. This guy reminds me of the runners you see along the roadside running with their back to traffic, abdicating any responsibility for their survival. Of course there's a pilot onboard the ship, and they really do not WANT to run him over, but... The M/V Eupen was a hazmat tanker with a USCG-mandated 500 yard security zone around the vessel at all times. The cargo was anhydrous ammonia.
Pollock fish pancakes (dongtaejeon)
www.maangchi.com Dongtae refers to frozen pollock fish. Dongtaejeon is one of the most common side dishes for special occasions in Korea along with bulgogi and japchae. Pollock is inexpensive compared to other fish and it's nice and juicy when it's pan-fried in batter. Ingredients (for 2 servings): Frozen pollock fillet, salt, ground black pepper, flour, eggs, canola oil (or vegetable oil). Directions: 1. Take 1 frozen pollock fillet (about 200 grams' worth) out of the package, rinse it in cold water, and set aside for 20 minutes. 2. Slice it into pieces at a 45 degree angle. You should get 8-9 pieces that are ⅛ inch thick x 2 inches x 3 inches. 3. Sprinkle a few pinches of salt and a bit of ground black pepper over the slices. 4. Place ⅓ cup of flour in a bowl. Add the fish slices and mix by hand to coat them with flour. 5. Beat 2 eggs in a small bowl with a few pinches of salt. 6. Heat up a non-stick pan over medium high heat. 7. Add 1-2 tbs canola oil to the pan. Dip each pollock slice in the beaten egg and place it onto the heated pan. 8. Lower the heat and cook for 1 minute. turn it over with a spatula and cook 1 more minute. Add more oil if needed, and put more egg mixture on top of each slice if you want to make it yellower. *tip: the leftover egg mixture and flour will be good batter for another pancake. Heavy baiting theory for carp part1 underwater video
On weedy lakes some anglers say if you Bait a spot with plenty of small particles. Fish will tear up the weed to get at the particles and this results in a clear spot in the weed. A perfect spot to fish on. I videod this process over 8 days to see if it works. The results are quite interesting, maybe not what you would expect to see. Here good old Hemp is applied to a very weedy spot on a lake in an effort to clear the weed. To be honest there is not much to see here, just the bait going in.
