this video was taken 09-26-09, during the typhoon ondoy in the philippines by the students stranded on the UERM campus.
Great flood in manila (Bagyong ondoy) Trap at SM centerpoint
At around 9 am i was suppose to go to work at Sta Cruz Manila. I passed Aurora blvd coming from Broadway centrum. As I noticed tremedous rain and beginning flood, i decided to pull back and stay in SM Centerpoint until the rain stops..But it didn't... Contrary to what they did at Gotesco mall where they tried to let the people not to enter the mall because they said they are closing....The administration of SM allowed us to enter and stay inside the mall...They even allowed one of the moviehouse and the Hall of Bingo Bonanza as a resting place to prevent loittering and looting...Thanks to SM centerpoint.......Savior Mall
Reporter's Notebook: Bagsik ni Ondoy 1
Hundreds were reported dead. Thousands were left homeless. Billions worth of livelihood and possessions were destroyed. No one was spared, neither rich nor poor, famous or ordinary, all became a part of the statistics. These were the glaring numbers recorded when typhoon "Ondoy", the worst storm to hit Manila in the last four decades attacked. In a span of six hours, many parts of the Metro and surrounding provinces were caught unprepared and were swallowed instantaneously by flood water. Reporter's Notebook presents the tales and horrors of the tragedy and probes at what happened to the billions of funds, numerous projects and programs that were supposed to be in place in times of calamities. Was "Ondoy" an act of nature or was a tragedy waiting to happen?

Ondoy "Ketsana": The Great Devastator (please watch and reflect)
Sit down and reflect... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ondoy made its landfall at Aurora - Quezon province about 6pm PST / 1000 (UTC) of September 26. The government declared a state of calamity in Metro Manila and 25 storm-hit provinces, allowing officials to utilize emergency funds for relief and rescue. Army troops, police and civilian volunteers rescued more than 4000 people. Ondoy roared across the north near the metropolis , dumping more than a month's worth of rain in just 12 hours. The resulting landslides and flooding left at least 122 people dead and 29 others missing. In addition, roads were clogged by vehicles struck in the floodwaters. Thousands of motorist and more than 500 passengers were stranded at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx). Distress calls and E-mails from thousands of metro manila and their worried relatives flooded tv and radio stations overnight. Also, powerlines and communication was shut down. Ondoy swamped entire towns, set off landslides and shut down the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for almost a day. State of Calamity declared together with confirmed deaths Note: Ilocos Sur must be included as a province for which a state of calamity had been declared. Several suburban towns on board air force helicopters and saw people waiting to be rescued in their rooftops and in flooded villages. The storm showed a devastating destroyed houses, overturned vans and cars, and streets were ...
Philippine Typhoon, Stranded People
I just got back from the river's edge 5 minutes ago. A 10-15 feet height differential between the Marikina River and the embankment has now been reduced to the point that water is splashing against the high-rises of Eastwood, Metro Manila. A security guard for this sealed off area approaches me and covers me with his umbrella while I snap pictures from my phone. "Where are the police or firemen?" I asked. He first points at a speck in the middle of the river 300-400 meters out to my right. "That was a woman with her 2 year old infant clinging on to her. She passed through here in the middle of the river - waving at us for help. There was nothing we could do - she had passed though within 5 seconds. We've been seeing other people washed away." We watched helplessly at the 20+ people 200 meters away that are now sitting on top of their corrugated roof-tops as the river rages beneath them on their submerged homes... waiting for emergency personnel yet to come.

Typhoon Ondoy- Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran
When are we going to learn? The loss of trees on mountain tops cause landslides and erosion when it rains. People lack discipline in disposing their garbage that clogs "esteros" and waterways going to sea. Those who lack residence simply squat on riverbanks, using the rivers as dumping areas for their wastes and the like. Greedy politicians closed their eyes on the crimes of our illegal loggers, while their hands are open, receiving bribes. Corrupt government officials pocket their pork barrel instead of using these in building flood controls. When are we going to learn and have self-discipline? Truly, it is the key to start solving these problems. SELF-DISCIPLINE. Remember the next time around, a typhoon , storm or flash flood comes, don't blame nature for these. It is all our fault... our own wrong-doings... it happened because of years of abusing our natural resources. We did not cared too much. Let this be served as our lesson. GISING NA KAIBIGAN, MASDAN MO ANG KAPALIGIRAN.
Typhoon ONDOY: Korean called FILIPINOS "MONKEYS" in a Twitter Blog
Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. Thats what I kept telling myself over and over until I realized words really do stung badly. I received a text message from a friend. It says that a Korean twitter blogger said: Have you heard the news? The monkey island Philippines is flooded. I hope the rain will never stop to drown those monkeys. They will die because monkeys cant swim I wanted to know if it is true, so I searched it and found out that it is already all over the net! It says that UglyYubin was the one who started the tweets. It was a fake account of a Korean celebrity. And I think the one I posted up there is not the exact sentence construction since the original was written in bad English (wrong grammar). The good news is the account got suspended already. I found out all of this info through these blogs: blogsphere, pinoyambisyoso, motorcyclephilippines If you are one of those who received such message, post your comment and links that will lead to the evidence that will prove this conversation does exist. If you are one of those who thinks that this is just a mere story from the graveyard and a fabricated lie, leave your defending words in human tongue! We have feelings that monkey can't feel and simply understands such simple personification meant, and we do not deserve to be called as character from a fable! My opinion? Ill say that not all Koreans are like that, because I know some would want me to believe so and because its not ...

A WOMAN'S STORY: GIVING BIRTH AT THE EVACUATION CENTER DURING ONDOY
WHY REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH BILL IS ESSENTIAL Video courtesy of UNFP Asia www.youtube.com RH BILL AWARENESS: Contrary to the misinformation campaign being spread by some, the Reproductive Health (RH) - Responsible Parenthood (R) Bill does not allow abortion and will not force any contraceptive methods on anyone. It will not dictate the number of children a family can have. The Bill will respect the moral convictions and religious beliefs of all, but at the same time, protect the unborn child by providing health services for the pregnant mother and likewise save the lives of mother from dying at childbirth. RH-RP Bill will protect, provide and access a full range of safe and effective family planning methods (both natural and artificial) to Filipinos regardless of their belief and non-belief. The Bill is pro-quality life for the whole family. It ensures that more children will grow up secure in the knowledge that they were wanted because their births were planned. It is not against the birth of children and does not advocate that couples stop having children. Rather, it only claims to help them achieve their fertility goals - to have the number and proper spacing of children that they desire. Under the Philippine Law, abortion is illegal. The RH-RP Bill does not, in any way, legalize abortion. In fact, this Bill will help reduce the instances of illegal abortions. Currently 11 mothers unnecessarily die from giving birth daily as per latest estimates of the United Nations. This ...
