Iran's oil industry & US sanctions-Iran Today-08-02-2011

www.presstv.com Iran exports 2.5 million barrels of oil every day. Countries like China, Russia and Japan depend on this steady flow of oil, but paying after delivery is becoming increasingly difficult. India currently owes Iran between five and nine billion dollars for oil received at least two years ago, but since then it's been unable to pay for it. Countries buying oil from Iran used to pay for it via European banks. That route was closed down in December 2010, so the transfer was then done through the Asian Barter Union/ Asian Clearing Union. So what is the problem? Well there's no legal reason. It's all about intimidation. The US has made it very clear that any country that's aid's trade with Iran will get the cold shoulder from Washington. Iran's economy is dependent on oil and the US and its allies, recognizing this, have clamped down on this industry. In this edition we'll be looking at the pressure Iran's oil industry faces and where this pressure is coming from.

Counting the Cost - US oil spill

The oil industry is crucial to those living on the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama - for years it has brought in money and employed people. But what happens when it threatens to cause great ecological and economic damage as it does now? Counting the Cost looks at the costs and benefits of the economy of oil to the US Gulf coast.

BUSTED: Oil industry is using military psyop mercenaries to stop environmental activists in the USA.

I came across with this article reporting a couple of audio files recorded by an environmental activist, during a meeting of oil industry in Houston, Texas, where the attendees are told by presenters, that oil companies are hiring mercenaries among former military personnel, with expertise in psy operations, to "deal" with opponents of the hydraulic fracturing technique, which contaminates the drinking water with chemical moisture. www.cnbc.com www.cbsnews.com www.fas.org

Foot Shooting: 'Disturbing oil imports hurts US first'

As the US seeks new ways to undermine the Syrian government, it's now slapping even more sanctions on Damascus' closest ally - Iran. President Obama's given the all-clear to the toughest measures yet against the Islamic state's oil industry. Washington will take punitive economic measures against any country that refuses to reduce imports of fuel from Iran. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich, researcher and writer talks to RT. She thinks America's shooting itself in the foot by such sanctions. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Energy as an Issue in US Presidential Campaign

This is the VOA Special English Economics Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Energy has become an important issue in the American presidential campaign. And gasoline prices, costs that affect almost all Americans, have risen sharply in recent months. For example, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has criticized President Obama's energy policy. In a newspaper commentary, he said the president has let prices rise while placing too many requirements on the energy industry. One issue in the political debate is a project proposed by the Canadian company Transcanada. Its Keystone XL pipeline would stretch more than three thousand kilometers from Alberta, Canada to several oil processing centers in the United States. If completed, the project would cost about thirteen billion dollars and transport over one million barrels of oil a day. The Republican Party has criticized President Obama for delaying work on the oil pipeline. Republican Doc Hastings serves in the United States Congress. He says the party wants to use all of the nation's energy resources. Mr. Hastings says that would include use of both the Keystone XL pipeline and oil exploration in coastal waters. He says Republicans in the House of Representatives have passed reforms that break down government barriers to America's natural resources. And, he says the House has passed legislation that would open coastal areas to new oil exploration and production. In early March, President Obama visited a Daimler ...

Oil and Gas - The Next Meltdown?

Peak Moment 130: Drawing parallels with the current financial meltdown, Matthew Simmons expresses his alarm about gasoline stocks being the lowest in several decades and refinery production down following recent hurricanes. He warns that if there were a run on the "energy bank" by everyone topping off their gasoline tanks, the US would be out of fuel in three days, and grocery shelves largely emptied in a week. In an interview plus excerpts from his presentation at the Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO-USA) conference on September 22, 2008, Matt highlights the risks and vulnerabilities in the finished oil products system, and answers questions from the audience. www.simmonsco-intl.com http DVDs of the entire conference can be ordered through ASPO-USA at www.regonline.com

'High-class terrorists running US, UK and France' — RT

As some European leaders demonstrate a celebratory mood over the violent death of Colonel Gaddafi, they are no less terrorists themselves, claims international consultant and author Adrian Salbuchi. Salbuchi said Gaddafi's death was undoubtedly a message for the whole world, as it is not just about Libya. "We are seeing how Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State expressed it very clearly: 'We came, we saw, he died,' and then started laughing. This is a message to the world of how this new world order model actually works," he stated. "When they decide to change the regime, they do so with the utmost violence, and it is a whole model. First they target a country by calling it a rogue state; then they support local terrorists and call them freedom fighters; then they bring death and destruction upon civilians and they call it UN sanctions. Then they spread lies and call it the International Community's opinion expressed by the Western media. Then they invade and control the country and call it liberation and finally they steal appetizing oil and call it foreign investment and reconstruction," Salbuchi explained. At the moment Western powers are hailing a democratic future for Libya. When Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003 the US also thought it was all over -- but it had only just begun. And according to Salbuchi, it is going to be the same, or even worse, for Libya. "I think one of the reasons why Gaddafi's country has been invaded and he has been killed is because he had ...

US already in covert war with Iran?

The US and Iran seem to be engaged in a political game that could be dangerous. The US, UK and Canada announced stricter sanctions on Iran that targets its oil and gas industry. Since then, key scientists involved in Iran's nuclear program have been assassinated and several Iranian government buildings have been blown up. These series of mysterious incidents have led many to believe the US is attempting to stop Iran from allegedly building up their nuclear program. Riz Khan - Evo Morales vs US - 24 July Part 2

Ever since he won the Bolivian presidency in 2005, Evo Morales has been a thorn in America's side. He once said, "The worst enemy of humanity is US capitalism." Originally a coca farmer himself, he has tried to block US intervention in eradicating coca farming in his country. In 2006, he partially nationalized Bolivia's oil and gas industry. Last month both countries recalled their ambassadors -- and tensions remain high between La Paz and Washington.

THE NEWS THAT COULD KILL US ALL .wmv

BP will leave the cap on the oil well while it vacates the area for a number of days to avoid the coming tropical storm. What could possibly go wrong? One expert warns that increasing pressure might have an unintended danger: Bill Gale, a California engineer and industrial explosion expert who is a member of the Deepwater Horizon Study Group, said... that gas hydrate crystals could be plugging any holes in the underground portion of the well, and they could get dislodged as pressure builds. (Gale was formerly Chief Loss Prevention Engineer for Bechtel in San Francisco, obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Masters in Civil Engineering and PhD in Fire Safety Engineering Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Gale is a registered professional engineer in both mechanical engineering and fire protection engineering, and has more than forty years of industrial loss prevention, process safety management, and fire protection/fire safety engineering experience.) In other words, there may have been a destruction of a portion of the steel well casing which was temporarily plugged by methane hydrate crystals. Leaving the well cap may slowly raise the pressure in the well to the point where the hydrate crystals are dislodged, in which case the well might really start leaking. Sound farfetched? Maybe. But remember that the "top hat" containment dome failed because it got plugged up with methane hydrate crystals. And remember that there's a lot of ...

US rapper Talib Kweli: I don't trust any government!

American rapper Talib Kweli is known for taking a strong stance on social and political issues. His latest album Reflection Eternal's "Revolutions Per Minute" [link: www.myspace.com tackles issues such as Arizona's controversial immigration law and negative impact the oil industry has had around the world. Talib sat down with RT to share his views on the pressing political issues of the day. He says that music can do more with one song than a politician with twenty speeches - and believes that real change won't come to America until the old guard politicians like John McCain and Jan Brewer "die off." "Their time is up and they are just grasping at whatever they can grasp, with ethnic studies and SB 1070 [Arizona's immigration law]. These things that make no sense but they make perfect sense for that mentality and that mentality is on its way out," says Kweli.

Maxine Waters Wants To "Socialize" Oil Companies

ElephantOwners(dot com) Congresswoman Maxine Waters displayed not only her utter ignorance about supply and demand, but made a very revealing verbal gaffe "And guess what this liberal will be all about? This liberal will be all about socializing,uh, umm- will be about, basically. taking over." 1:10 into the clip, Ms. Waters accidentally says what the far left of her party believe, that the government has the right to seize control of private industry. If Democrats truly were interested in reducing the price of gasoline, they'd allow the oil companies to drill in ANWR and off our gulf coast to increase their output of oil and gas and improve our energy independence. But liberal extremists don't really want that. They'd rather use the American citizens' plight to demagogue their way to more power and bigger government.

Oil War - Nigeria

June 2005 Nigeria's lucrative oil reserves may have enriched its politicians but they've brought little but misery to ordinary people. Now, a rebel group is fighting for a share of the profits. "I need help. I need help," begs a woman, clutching her young children in despair. Her home has just been demolished to create luxury housing for foreign oil workers. "The oil boom has turned into the oil doom!" laments Pastor Lekia. Across the Niger Delta, there's growing resentment at the oil industry. "Corruption pervades the whole place, starting with the way contracts are awarded," complains lawyer Ledum Mittee. "There seems to be some sort of collusion between the oil companies and those in power." But militia leader Asari Dokubo has vowed to sever that link. He's fighting to seize control of the oil and give it back to the people. "We own the oil!" he proclaims. "The thieves are the people in Abuja." And across Nigeria, young men are flocking to his call. Last September, he spooked the international markets and forced the price of oil to $50 a barrel by threatening to attack foreign oil companies. The government was forced to agree a truce but he's threatened to rearm unless oil companies leave. Nigerians no longer expect help from their own government. It's militia leaders like Asari who are winning their trust. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

OIL PRICES AND TAX BREAKS

As a former state senator for 20 years, an executive committee member of the National Energy Council, an energy consultant, a stock broker and financial analyst, let me please help you interpret all the doublespeak and misinformation, without the burden of having to defend either side. Now, to those of us average Joes and Janes, oil is a necessity. But why does it cost so much? Whether it's the owners of the oil, the industries that extract and refine it, the governments who tax it, or the investors who buy it, somehow they all combine to figure how much the end user can stand to pay for it. Interestingly in the top 10 producers are our two neighbors Canada and Mexico, which both sell us a lot of oil, and a major beneficiary of our financial and military largesse—Iraq. Many years ago I passed legislation requesting that the White House arrange a deal with Iraq that eventually pays us back in oil for all the money we have spent liberating that country. Now, that would bring the price of gas down. Unfortunately, President Bush didn't like the idea. The average cost to produce a barrel of oil, is about $30, with one third going to extraction and taxes and two thirds going to exploration and development. And that's according to a US Energy Information Administration survey. , even though oil companies say it'll cost them 60 dollars. The going rate to buy a barrel of oil today is about $110. That's a nice profit when your dealing with a necessity that doesn't require constant ...

The ancient city of Babylon in southern Iraq is considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. But that prestigious title doesn't seem to bother the country's booming oil industry. Middle East expert Deepak Tripathi warns that the pipeline may sooner or later destroy the historic site. Why The US Gov Needed A 9/11

"History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling money and it's issuance." -- James Madison The first person to distill gasoline from crude oil was Benjamin Sillman Jr., a chemist from the prestigious Yale University, who is credited with developing much of the Oil industry. Sillman, who later became a professor of chemistry at Yale was also a member of the Skull and Bones Fraternity. Secret Societies like Skull and Bones are breeding grounds for the concentration of wealth and power. They represent an Ivy League consolidation of bankers, politicians, intelligence agents, CEOs, and scientists who are generally willing to endorse policy favorable for the elite, including the control and mass use of oil as well as the suppression of alternative energies. The elites would love for people to focus on the bazaar rituals, since the occult provides the perfect distraction while networks of people are tapped and put into positions of power. A perfect example of this would be the 2004 elections where George Bush and John Kerry, both members of Skull and Bones, were the only choices given to the American people. Even Obama has proven with the bailouts that he works for the interests of Wall Street and the international bankers and NOT the American people. Drill baby Drill is now Spill baby spill... Ever wonder why the ROVs have gone Black? Ever wonder why the BOP sat on the dock till late November, over TWO MONTHS, before testing began? The answers are quite simple actually. BP has LIED to us and tried to sweep everything under the proverbial rug. They used highly toxic Corexit 9500 with NO REGARD for the safety and sanctity of human life! On top of this, Craig Venter of Synthetic Genomics introduced a computer generated artificial DNA (lifeform) that got completely out of hand - See the clips of Vibrio Vulnificous whereby people died horrible deaths prior to learning of "Synthia" that eats everything in sight from Steel to human flesh! Killing the Electric Car - USA

Sep 2006 Did General Motors deliberately sabotage the marketing of electric cars because they threatened the motor industry? That's the allegation made in a controversial new documentary. Ten years ago, GM unveiled the EV1 -- the first electric car for the mass market. "The EV1 was really special because it was cool and fast and fun to drive," states former GM marketer Chelsea Sexton. "These cars were so good, they would challenge the status quo of the oil industry." But despite their popularity among owners, GM quickly pulled the plug on its new product. It claims there was simply no mass market. "You could only go 100 miles before you had to recharge it so had to adapt your lifestyle to meet the needs of the vehicle," states spokesman Dave Barthmuss. But other workers believe GM never intended the EV1s to work and were more interested in promoting Hummers. "We got indications along the way that they weren't as sincere as they would have people believe," states Sexton. All the EV1s had been leased, instead of sold, to their owners. When the leases expired, GM refused to renew them and sent the cars to be crushed. But demand for electric cars keeps on growing. Some enthusiasts have converted their own cars to run on electricity and claim they have invented a battery that will last for 500km. Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Day Of Rage: Saudi Arabia In Veiled Threat To US Paul Joseph Watson www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv March 9, 2011 As the world braces itself for Saudi Arabia's "day of rage" on Friday, which many fear could be the spark that sends oil prices soaring to beyond the $200 a barrel mark, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal issued a veiled threat to the United States, warning that the Kingdom was prepared to "cut foreign fingers" in the event of any outside interference. The "day of rage" was been organized by Saudi youths using a Facebook page that has attracted over 17000 members. A message posted on the page also called for a "Saudi Revolution" demanding democratic and political reform on March 20. 48 hours ahead of the first protest, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal issued a stern message to outsiders who saw the demonstrations as an opportunity to advance geopolitical plans against the oil-rich country. Claiming the protests violated, "The Koran and the way of the Prophet," Faisal vowed that the Kingdom would "cut off" any accusing finger of foreign nations who condemned the government's response to the Shiite protests, which is expected to be brutal. Ghana to Grow Economy from Oil Revenues

Ghana is to start commercial oil production next month, will use crude revenues to transform its economy, aiming to avoid the pitfalls of nations finding new resources, the finance minister said Thursday. Oil is expected to account for 6% of Ghana's domestic revenue in the 2011 fiscal year, Finance Minister Kwabena Duffuor said while presenting next year's budget to the parliament. Concerns about global oil demand on Wednesday trumped a US Department of Energy report that stockpiles of oil and gasoline were down last week. Crude oil for December delivery fell $1.90 to settle at $80.44 Wednesday as traders anticipated China's pending actions to rein in inflation. The cause of a natural gas leak which occurred on the Alba Northern platform on Nov. 17 will be fully investigated, a Chevron spokesperson said today. The spokesperson said the leak was quickly brought under control and that all 135 personnel on board at the time have been accounted for with no injuries.

9 11 Coincidences - 15 of 19 - Bin Laden The Forbidden Truth

Osama bin Laden - The Forbidden Truth by Firoz Osman It is becoming more apparent that the war in Afghanistan has nothing to do with terrorism, Osama bin Laden, the Taliban or the World Trade Centre. Realpolitik, the need and greed for oil and gas are, once again, the source of misery and tragedy. This time it is in Central Asia, just as it was in Iraq. In a book entitled "Unholy Wars", ABC news correspondent John K Cooley reveals United States and multi-national oil companies intentions to establish pipelines to route the oil and natural gas of Central Asia and the Caspian Basin to the West. To this end the aims of the generals of the Pakistani ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) and their American counterparts, the CIA, converged. They saw in the Taliban the means by which they could achieve their objectives. In 1993, Pakistan and Turkmenistan had signed an agreement to jointly develop their energy resources and build a pipeline between the two countries. UNOCAL, based in California, signed a protocol with the Turkmen government to explore the feasibility of building this pipeline. The one-year study cost $10 million for a huge energy project worth $18 billion, to transport Turkmen oil and gas by pipeline to the Indian Ocean. This trade and energy would run through Pakistan, America's ally, rather than through Iran, her adversary ever since the overthrow of the Shah in 1979. This will also bypass Iranian ambitions to channel Turkmen energy. A further objective of both the ...

Since 2009, he has stated that the US government, using a secret military program known as HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) has been altering the climate, and using high power microwave energy, has induced earthquakes including the Asian Tsunami (2004) and earthquakes in Japan (1995), China (2008), Haiti (2010), and Chile (2010). A Debate: Should the US Approve TransCanada's Keystone XL Tar Sands Oil Pipeline? 1 of 2

DemocracyNow.org - Thousands of environmental activists from across the continent plan to gather in Washington, DC, tomorrow to launch a two-week protest against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline that would carry tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to US oil refineries Gulf of Mexico. The massive pipeline would cross the Yellowstone River, as well as the Ogallala Aquifer, the largest freshwater aquifer in the United States. Environmentalists plan to hold sit-ins and other acts of civil disobedience outside the White House everyday in order to pressure the Obama administration as it decides whether to approve the pipeline's construction. Supporters of the pipeline say the pipeline will create some 20000 construction jobs, and the company behind it, TransCanada, has already signed agreements to employ the members of four international unions if the project is approved. Last month, the Republican-controlled House passed a measure that would force a decision on the Keystone XL by November 1. As the Obama administration faces industry pressure on one side and sustained grassroots protest on the other, Democracy Now! hosts a debate between Cindy Schild, the Refining Issues Manager at the American Petroleum Institute, and Jane Kleeb, executive director of Bold Nebraska, a group taking part in the Washington protests. Haynesville: Kassi Fitzgerald: "Bargaining Power"

Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/HaynesvilleMovie Follow us on Twitter: @haynesvillefilm SYNOPSIS "Haynesville: A Nation's Hunt for an Energy Future" takes place in the Louisiana backwoods, and follows the momentous discovery of the largest natural gas field in the United States (and maybe the world). The film examines the historic find (a formation called the "Haynesville Shale") from the personal level as well as from the higher perspective of the current energy picture and pending energy future. As the Haynesville boom erupts, the film focuses on three lives caught in the middle of the find: A single mom takes up the defense of her community's environmental protections, an African American preacher attempts to use the riches to build a Christian school and a salt-of-the-earth, self-described "country boy" finds himself conflicted as he weighs losing his land to an oil company's offer to make him a millionaire. From a broader perspective, Haynesville explores the current energy situation and what something the scale of the Haynesville (170 trillion cubic feet or the equivalent of 28 billion barrels of oil) could mean to the United States' energy picture. In a never-seen-before on-screen discussion, environmentalists, academics and oil and gas industry folks hash out the idea of trying to find cleaner ...

Mark Ruffalo PSA - Don't Frack OH - June 17, 2012

Sign up at www.dontfrackoh.org Join us in Columbus, OH June 14-17, 2012 Something big is happening in the growing movement against fracking. From New York, where I live, to communities across the country, people are standing up to say no to fracking and to natural gas. They understand, no matter what the industry tells them, that fracking is not safe, and they're not willing to leave a toxic legacy for their children. People know that, not only does fracking poison our water, it also poisons our air with cancer-causing fumes. It fills our rivers with radioactive wastewater. It even causes earthquakes—like the one that shook Youngstown, Ohio this past New Year's Eve. And fracking is bringing us closer to climate disaster. Big oil and gas corporations would have us believe that we need natural gas, that cancer, climate change and earthquakes are just the price of keeping the lights on. But we know the truth clean energy solutions exist today, and we can't afford not to embrace them—there's just too much at stake. Thankfully, there's a grassroots uprising underway in every corner of our country to reject fracked gas and demand renewable energy. From North Dakota to California, Colorado to North Carolina, people are organizing and calling on their town councils, state legislatures, governors, and Congressmembers. They're demanding American communities be put before corporate profits, demanding we invest in real solutions, not a bridge to nowhere. That's exactly what happened ...
