This was stated in a 20 minute "behind the scenes" feature of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie DVD with creator Stephen Hillenburg and a few voice actors. The following was quoted by Squidward's voice actor, Rodger Bumpass: "I am Rodger Bumpass, and I play Squidward Tentacles. He's more of an adult, tries to be at least. He's an octopus, but they call him Squidward. I never understood. I guess Octoward just never worked for a name, though." Also, in another feature on the DVD, entitled "The Case of the SpongeBob," Stephen Hillenburg quotes the following: "This is Squidward the octopus." So I don't want to hear not even one comment saying he's a squid! =) I don't own anything of this! Not SpongeBob, not the song. I'm just a fan.

Video made without cameras. "Octopus's Garden" is a song by The Beatles written by Ringo Starr from their 1969 album Abbey Road. George Harrison worked on the song with Starr; perhaps out of solidarity as his own songs were often dismissed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Harrison commented: "'Octopus's Garden' is Ringo's song. It's only the second song Ringo has ever written, mind you, and it's lovely." Harrison added that the song gets very deep into your consciousness "because it's so peaceful. I suppose Ringo is writing cosmic songs these days without even realising it." The idea for the song came about when Starr was on a boat belonging to comedian Peter Sellers in Sardinia in 1968. He ordered fish and chips for lunch, but instead of fish he got squid (it was the first time he'd eaten squid, and he said, "It was OK. A bit rubbery. Tasted like chicken.") Then the boat's captain told Starr about how octopuses travel along the sea bed picking up stones and shiny objects with which to build gardens. The Let It Be film included a scene in which Harrison is shown helping Starr work the song out on piano. The song, which contains the lyrics "Oh what joy for every girl and boy / Knowing they're happy and they're safe," is sometimes thought of as being a song for children, like "Yellow Submarine", "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" or "All Together Now". It has also been performed by the Muppets several times in various episodes of their shows

www.youtube.com Here`s the official wiki account of the song; Ringo Starr wrote and sang one song for the Abbey Road album, "Octopus's Garden", his second (and last) composition released on a Beatles album. It was inspired by a trip to Sardinia that occurred when Starr left the band for two weeks with his family during the sessions for The Beatles. While there, he composed the song, which is arguably his most successful writing effort. While Starr had the lyrics nearly pinned down, the song's melodic structure was partly written in the studio by Harrison (as can be seen in the Let It Be film), although Harrison gave full songwriting credit to Starr.

"Octopus's Garden" was released on The Beatles' last album, Abbey Road in October 1969. The album is extraordinary for many reasons, not the least of which is that the band had been rapidly becoming undone by the time it was recorded. How truly amazing that this record captures such brilliance, The Beatles at the pinnacle of their powers when they were becoming so fractured and distant as band mates. That this band was seriously coming apart at the seams, is readily apparent as anyone who has ever sat thorough any of the filmed hours of their bleak, cold and joyless Let It Be sessions. The members of the band as captured in the Let It Be film didn't look like they could much stand being in the same room with each other, much less record an album together? However, just a few months later they not only made another record together....they made a masterpiece, possible the greatest one they ever recorded. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 14 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". In 2009, readers of the magazine also named Abbey Road the greatest Beatles album. So, even running of fumes, The Beatles were destined to exit with an album that produced as loud a bang as the one they entered with!
