Planet Earth's Northern Hemisphere
A timelapse of Planet Earth from Electro-L, a geostationary satellite orbiting 40000km above the Earth. The satellite creates a 121 megapixel image every 30 minutes with four visible and infrared light wavelengths. The infrared light appears orange in these images, and shows vegetation. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, 2011 and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. The images are "masked" by a circular barrier that blocks out the light of the Sun and other stars. This is to prevent damage to the camera by exposure to direct sunlight. Dance of the Spirits: Incredible Real Time Northern Lights from Jan 24 Solar Storm
This is incredible, real time footage of the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis filmed on January 24th during the peak of a Solar Storm. This is not time-lapse, this is how the Northern Lights really can dance and move across the sky. The colours are true as well. We even captured a shooting star at 02:30. Shot using a Sony PMW-F3 using a 2 frame slow shutter, S-Log and +18db gain (ISO 6400). Sadly compressing to H264 makes the video a bit blocky and with a lot of banding. I'll try to upload a higher quality version once I return home from Norway at the beginning of Feb.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has hit northern Italy, reportedly killing at least six people and injuring 50 others. The quake struck some 36 km northwest of the city of Bologna and was followed by a powerful aftershock. Aurora Borealis, AKA Northern Lights time-lapse video from just northwest of Fergus Falls, MN as the geomagnetic storm peaked. Shot with a 10mm wide angle lens as the Auroras filled the sky to make it look like it was on fire. ***Not for rebroadcast on television*** To license this footage, visit www.StormChasingVideo.com Per NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Moderate (G2) geomagnetic storming is occurring and Strong (G3) storms are likely in conjunction with the arrival of the solar eruptions from April 18th and 19th. These eruptions arrived within hours of their expected times and the second event came in with the magnetic field favorably oriented for moderate to strong storming.
