Paul Mounsey - North. This track is featured on the 'Visit Scotland' ads. New Age music is one of the best sub-genres of electronic music. Its mellow beats create a powerful ambience in any situation. Listening to it will make a person very chilled out, whether they're working or just need to get their mind off things. No doubt one of the best New Age artists are Enigma, in which I have most of their discography. I first heard this track whilst coming across one of the VisitScotland ads, and had to look up this track (similar thing happened with the Echo Falls ad with 'Art Of Noise - Three Fingers Of Love' - check that out too). 'North' by Paul Mounsey from his 1998 album 'Nahoo Too', features an addictive violin melody, that goes perfectly with the vocal in the background, not fond of the first part of the rock guitar but the end part makes up for this great track.

North To Alaska ~ Johnny Horton The Klondike Gold Rush The Klondike Gold Rush was a frenzy of gold rush immigration to and gold prospecting in the Klondike near Dawson City in the Yukon Territory, Canada, after gold was discovered in the late 19th century. In August 1896, three people led by Skookum Jim Mason (a member of the Tagish nation whose birth name was Keish) headed up the Yukon River from the Carcross area looking for his sister Kate and her husband George Carmack. The party included Skookum Jim, Skookum Jim's cousin known as Dawson Charlie (or sometimes Tagish Charlie) and his nephew Patsy Henderson. After meeting up with George and Kate who were fishing for salmon at the mouth of the Klondike River, they ran into Nova Scotian Robert Henderson who had been mining gold on the Indian River, just south of the Klondike. Henderson told George Carmack about where he was mining and that he did not want any "damn Siwashes" (meaning Indians) near him. The group then headed a few miles up the Klondike River to Rabbit Creek, now Bonanza Creek to hunt moose. On August 16, 1896, the party discovered rich placer gold deposits in Bonanza (Rabbit) Creek. It is now generally accepted that Skookum Jim made the actual discovery, but some accounts say that it was Kate Carmack. Famine - North Korea
Oct 1997 Mark Davis reports on the devastating famine in North Korea of 1997, confirming the extent of the food crisis, and that international aid did not get through to the people who need it most. He captures a rare insight into the negotiations between CARE and the government Relief Committee, who complain CARE is not helping enough. The obsessively secretive government wants to direct all aid to the fertile rice bowl areas around the capital, because productivity here is highest. Then they will then be able to feed the starving in the country's north. Williamson disagrees and is granted a rare permit to travel north to judge for himself. The team break the schedule and visit a nursery of their choosing. Here the hungry children are lacklustre and silent. Officially banned from filming in hospitals, desperate doctors allow the camera in. Hungry mothers are supposed to supply food for their children. A family with no men starve more than their more productive neighbours. If you don't work, it seems, you don't eat. This is no socialist famine. The government says the north is not a farming area and shouldn't get aid first. CARE says aid should go to the starving. Criterion Edition. This is not the original print, some scenes have been left out. The score is also not the original, and was composed by Timothy Brook in 1998. Nanook of the North was filmed from 1920-1921 in Port Harrison, Northern Quebec by Robert Joseph Flaherty. This was the first successful documentary ever made, and was a true benchmark for ethnographic film. Robert Flaherty brought and entirely unknown culture to the western world. The Flaherty family lived in Port Arthur Ontario from 1901-1905, and one of my relatives by the name of Hans Haugen held a photograph album from Robert Flaherty. Hans Haugen owned the general store at Loon Lake, where the Flahertys had their summer home. I've obtained a photograph called "The Sharks at Loon" containing Robert J. Flaherty, his father Robert H. Flaherty, and a few prominent family members of Port Arthur at the time it was taken. The Flaherty Cabin still stands at Loon Lake, and their former home is located on Algoma Street in Thunder Bay.
