Armed with a geologist's microphone, he eavesdrops on the groans of a Norwegian glacier. In Trafalgar Square, 19th century builders found an extraordinary collection of bones, including those of hippos, hyenas and lions, demonstrating that the Ice Age was not unrelentingly cold. ©BBC

THE NATURAL HISTORY OF SELBORNE
Here's a selection from the 183 illustrations in the celebrated 1900 edition of Gilbert White's classic 18th century work, 'The Natural History of Selborne', drawn by my great-great-half-uncle, Edmund Hort New. I wrote the baroque style bourree for flute and continuo to accompany the pictures and recreate the mood of the time in which Gilbert White was writing. Kitty Foyle
Known for light comedies and her partnership with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers stepped off the dance floor and into 1940's Oscar spotlight with her Best Actress turn as Kitty, an indomitable working-class girl who endures the rejection of Philadelphia society, makes her own way as a single woman and ultimately chooses between an unmarried arrangement with Main Line scion Wynnewood Strafford VI (Dennis Morgan) or marriage to a struggling physician (James Craig). Rogers' deserved Academy Award confirmed she was more than a dance star - a fact humorously underscored when she returned to the studio and was greeted by staffers and actors in top hats and tails. Jane Wyman won the Best Actress Academy Award for her sensitive portrayal of Belinda, capturing the girl's affecting isolation, awakening desire to learn and ultimate triumph. Directed by Jean Negulesco and co-starring Lew Ayres, Charles Bickford and Agnes Moorehead (all four Oscar nominees* for their fine work), Johnny Belinda (nominated for a total 11 Oscars including Best Picture) blends atmosphere, nuance and high drama into a heartbreaking classic. Lennox Vs. Dawkins Debate - Has Science Buried God?
Oxford Museum of Natural History hosts this fascinating and controversial debate on the existence of God. Professor John Lennox explains how science points to an intelligent creator and Richard Dawkins offers a counterargument. When Dawkins was asked if he ever considered God, he said, ""Yeah maybe I have, but if I have, so what? It doesn't make it true. That's what it matters." To this I'd like to ask him, how does he know if "it" is not true? Haven't see any evidence? How does it matter to the very existence of God? Does God disappear just because someone thinks there's no "evidence?" Someone is appealing to his own ignorance here if you ask me. ;) vid by : fixed-point.org
