NASCAR testing at MIS
NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series won't hit Michigan International Speedway until June but a quartet of their top driver's were on the track Wednesday. Jeff Gordon, Brad Kesolowski, Juan Pablo Montoya and this year's Daytona 500 champ Matt Kenseth, took part in tire testing for Goodyear. It was the first time any of them had driven MIS since it was repaved last fall. While they weren't necessarily trying to set a new track record, unofficially they did. All of them. The drivers tweeting they topped out around 215 to 216 miles per hour. "I'm not sure I want to know I'm going that fast," said Gordon. "I am not a big fan of repaves, so the fact that I am talking positive about it and still enjoying the racetrack as much as I always have, I think that is a sign where I rank it. I rank it very high." Former IndyCar driver Montoya, agreed with Gordon. "This place is fast. I mean fast, fast," said Montoya. "For a car like this, it is really, really quick. It is a lot of fun. I think as the track links up I think it is going to bring great racing. That is pretty good." The green flag drops on the first Sprint Cup Series race at MIS on June 17.

NASCAR Richard Childress Punches Kyle Busch Kansas Speedway 6.4.11
Kyle Busch and 65-year-old car owner Richard Childress were involved in a physical confrontation after Saturday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp confirmed they are looking into it. Childress approached Busch and struck him with his fist in the garage area after the race, according to the Charlotte Observer. The fight was broken up and insults were exchanged before Childress put Busch in a headlock and hit him again, the newspaper said. Busch finished sixth, a spot behind Richard Childress Racing driver Joey Coulter after the two had a spirited late battle for position. Busch drove up beside Coulter's truck following the race and tapped it. When asked what happened between the two, Coulter joked that, according to the spotters, Busch was just congratulating him. Bill Janitz, a spokesman for Busch, told The Associated Press in an email that "there won't be any comment tonight." A phone message left for Richard Childress Racing seeking comment was not immediately returned. RCR driver Clint Bowyer won the Trucks event to snap Busch's three-race winning streak

CONCORD, NC (AP) — Tony Stewart won his first race as a team owner Saturday night, breaking through for a $1 million payday with a victory in the annual All-Star race. Stewart passed Matt Kenseth with two laps to go of a thrilling final 10-lap shootout to win his first All-Star event in 11 previous starts. It was the first victory since he left Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of last year, after two championships and 10 successful seasons, to become co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. In just six months, Smoke has turned his new toy into a championship contender. It was the first win for the organization, which was known as Haas CNC Racing for its first seven seasons. The win at Lowe's Motor Speedway was in front of co-owner Gene Haas, who was at the track for the first time since the completion of a 16-month federal prison term for tax fraud. "Man, he's not going to miss a week now," Stewart said. "He gets here and we win a race." Stewart became the second driver/owner to win the All-Star race, joining Geoff Bodine, who won in 1994. His crew urged him to the climb the fence in celebration — a tradition he started several years ago — but the driver who turns 38 next week declined. His crew climbed for him. Kenseth finished second and was followed by Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards. Google Announces Google Racing - NASCAR - Martinsville Speedway April 1, 2012 - April Fools
As part of its annual April Fools' pranks, Google came up with Google Racing, an almost plausible partnership with Nascar. In a post on the official Google blog, apparent racing car fan Sergey Brin wrote: ...today we're moving the project one great leap forward with Google Racing, a groundbreaking partnership with NASCAR to help self-driving vehicles compete in the world of stock car racing. We think the most important thing computers can do in the next decade is to drive cars--and that the most important thing Google Racing can do in the next decade is drive them, if possible, more quickly than anyone else. Or anything else. Brin, or someone at Google, writes about the joys of enabling "one of our cars to hold its own in a field of 43 jacked-up, 800-horsepower beasts screaming down a straightaway within inches of each other at upwards of 200 miles per hour," and concludes, "I can't imagine a more exciting challenge for our team than to race our autonomous vehicles against their carbon-based competitors." The prank includes an elaborate video with Nascar, paint schemes for the Nascar stock car and several photos, with an "I'm steering lucky!" decal on the back fender.
