Kings Gambit: Muzio Gambit Variation

The Muzio Gambit is an extremely aggressive variation in the king's gambit that looks to give up an early pawn and knight in exchange for an extremely aggressive attack on the black king. With so much focused on the f7 square, black has to play precise to hold a chance against all the traps white can lay out.

Casta Diva - Claudia Muzio

A moving Rendition by one of the Great Sopranos of the last Century. Muzio was known for her interpretaions and her ability to produce great pathos in her singing. This recording was made by Columbia late in her career during declining health 1935 The tenor Giacomo Lauri-Volpi wrote of Muzio: "Singing with that unique voice of hers made of tears and sighs and restrained interior fire. The years, around 1930, were probably her best, precisely the years in which she did not record! Between 1924 and 1934 there is a ten-year gap. The missing period would seem to be the very one in which her interpretations had matured while her voice was still in prime condition. The early records may lack the intensity and creativeness of her later recordings, and in the famous Columbias one is aware of some physical limitations (uneasy high notes, flatness, mannerisms in style and enunciation, vowels!), but there is a pathos, an inner committment and charm in her singing that is immensely moving and touching. Only a few sopranos equalled her in this aspect of emotional involvement."

Stephen Ward Paintings and drawings with piano music by Muzio Clementi performed by Alessio Cesaroni

My Artwork set to fantastic piano music by Muzio Clementi Sonatina N.6 Op. 35 - 1 (24 January 1752, Rome -- 10 March 1832, Evesham, Worcestershire, England) was a celebrated composer, pianist, pedagogue, conductor, music publisher, editor, and piano manufacturer. Born in Italy, he spent most of his life in England. He is best known for his piano sonatas, and his collection of piano studies, Gradus ad Parnassum. Nineteenth century enthusiasts lauded Clementi as "the father of the pianoforte", "father of modern piano technique", and "father of Romantic pianistic virtuosity". Encouraged to study music by his father, he was sponsored as a young composer by Sir Peter Beckford, a wealthy Englishman who took him to England to advance his studies. He soon became known as one of the great piano virtuosi, touring Europe numerous times from his long time base in London. It was on one of these occasions in 1781 that he famously engaged in a piano competition with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Performed by Alessio Cesaroni. Muzio Clementi : Sonatina in D, Op. 36 No. 6

Allegro con spirito; Rondo (Allegro spiritoso) Note: the LH figure in bar 4 of the first movement ( at about 0:17 ) may have been slightly misread. As a listener you will probably not notice, but if you are studying the piece, don't copy me without checking your score! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Italian pianist and composer Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) is best known today for his 'Gradus ad Parnassum' collection of piano studies, and for his sonatinas. Of course, most pianists learn them as students and then put them away, as I did myself. But I had a look at them again recently, and realised what wonderful perfect miniatures of classical style they are, and what fun they are to play. This final sonatina in the set is unusual in having no 'slow movement' - the contrast between the two movements is provided by the switch between 4/4 and 6/8 time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear www.psear.co.uk

Claudia Muzio Traviata "Addio del passato" w.recitativo

La Muzio revels in this glorious final act of Verdi's great masterpiece, "La Traviata". This role has been sung well by many great stars, but here for me is one of the greatest and most haunting readings of this recitative and aria you will ever hear. In a total concentration of talent and pure magic, Muzio so identifies with the doomed courtesan that she becomes her in the kind of performance that transcends the medium. Not just notes, but pieces of herself that are breaking off as melodious fragments of a life and soul coming to an end. A sick and breathless quality to the famous reading of the letter hauntingly confirms from the very beginning the nearness of death and hopelessness and as we are taken deeper into her world coming to a end, the heartbreak is almost unbearable. Exactly what Verdi begged for in his genius melodies and text, a living emotion in sound and words. Muzio is a vivid example of a type of expression that used to be demanded of singers.... the orchestra becomes an extension of her and not just music, she uses the entire piece to weave a spell transporting us all to this final moment in a life ultimately trasnfigured by the power of love. This one could scar you for life!

Claudia Muzio - Addio Del Passato (1935)

Claudia Muzio(February 7, 1889 - May 24, 1936) was Italian Soprano who had a great Reputation in the first years of 20th century. This recording was made for Columbia in 1935. Played on my Victrola with orthophonic Soundbox and Fidelitone needle (Special gift from merrihew. - Many Thanks to that.) The record's label was severely damaged because of the needle,(Originally it contained a Photo of Muzio) so I won't post the photo of the label. Instead, I'll make a slide show of Muzio's Pictures in her golden years.

Clementi - Piano Concerto in C Major - (1/3) 1st Mvmt.

Muzio Clementi was a contemporary of many of the greats like Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven and, therefore, sometimes gets overlooked. But, during his lifetime, he was considered second to only Haydn in the arena of Symphony composition. Beethoven regarded Clementi so highly that he gave Muzio publishing rights for all of Beethoven's compositions. Perhaps most impressive, Mozart and Clementi took part in a private "contest" in Vienna for Emperor Joseph II who used the "contest" as entertainment for his guests, the Grand Duke and Duchess of Russia. The two improvised, sight-read and performed selections from their own compositions. The Emperor couldn't decide on a winner and so the contest was called a tie. Here is the 1st movement from Clementi's only Piano Concerto (the majority of Clementi's piano work was in the form of sontas), an Allegro con spirito, performed by the Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble with Ivan Drenikov on the piano and Vassil Kazandjiev at the baton. Enjoy!

100 Greatest Singers: CLAUDIA MUZIO

THIS PROJECT IS RESERVED ONLY FOR THE GREATEST! Please comment Claudia Muzio! Claudia Muzio, Soprano (1889-1936) Giuseppe Verdi - La Traviata Addio del passato (Recorded 1934) My personal opinion: Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, always an intelligent and courageous woman, about herself: "Meine Stimme war nichts besonderes! (My voice wasn´t something special!)". Nevertheless she became a world class singer. It was the famous italian singing teacher Lamperti who said: "If you have magnetism, the world is yours!" Schwarzkopf had magnetism, as well as italian born soprano Claudia Muzio, whose voice wasn´t exceptional at all. "She sang with her very own voice", wrote Giacomo Lauri-Volpi in one of his books. It is a real treat to experience Muzio on records. She hadn´t the brilliance and agility of Sembrich or Melba, but strong verve, intensity and intimaty. She succeeded to show the psychological drama behind the figure. Her singing was acting. Therefore she was a modern singer. Many critics affronted her strange phrasing and imprecise articulation. She came to Scala in season 1913/14, but success came not until 1929, the rank of a first primadonna never came. In London she made effect alongside Caruso in "Tosca", in 1916 she entered the Met-stage - again with Caruso. Irving Kolodin wrote in his Met-chronicles, Muzio always was inspiring, sometimes even exciting - but she never coulnd´t win the audience´s love like Bori or Farrar. With the rise of Rosa Ponselle, Muzio became sick of ...
