The Moth Presents Steve Burns: Fameishness

The star of a children's television show grapples with the meaning of fame. Steve Burns is best known for playing 'Steve' on Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues from 1996-2002. Since then, he has released a rock record for grown ups that received pretty good reviews, toured with The Flaming Lips, made an album of music for children, and appeared in strange plays, mostly in Brooklyn. The Moth is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of storytelling. To find out more about our live shows, podcast, The Moth Radio Hour, or how to support us, please visit themoth.org

Jethro Tull- Moths

The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame And the first Moths of summer suicidal came. And a new breeze chattered in its May-bud tenderness --- Sending water-lillies sailing as she turned to get undressed. And the long night awakened and we soared on powdered wings --- Circling our tomorrows in the wary month of Spring. Chasing shadows slipping in a magic lantern slide --- Creatures of the candle on a night-light-ride. Dipping and weaving --- flutter through the golden needle's eye in our haystack madness. Butterfly-stroking on a Spring-tide high. Life's too long (as the Lemming said) as the candle burned and the Moths were wed. And we'll all burn together as the wick grows higher --- before the candle's dead. The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame. And the first moths of summer suicidal came to join in the worship of the light that never dies in a moment's reflection of two moths spinning in her eyes. Jethro Tull- Moths, from the album Heavy Horses

The Moth - Jack Davenport - "Bring Me To Life"

Yet another Jack Davenport Slideshow/Video of a movie I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing :), but it looks good and we all know that Jack Davenport makes for great viewing. This video features the song "Bring me to life" by EVANESCENCE. Hence the name. I thought I put the slide in there but I'm apparently a dork who didn't. I'm redoing it now with the slide giving it the proper credit. So that the song and the clips make better sense however, here is the movie summery for all of us who haven't seen it yet, Enjoy!: Set in 1913 Northumbria, England, the story is about Robert Bradley, a strong-willed young worker at a Jarrow shipyard, who arrives home one day to find that his father has died. At the funeral he meets his father's estranged brother, his uncle John Bradley, and his wife Alice who offer Robert a new home and a place in his uncle's carpentry workshop. Robert accepts and after a few weeks at his new home, he is out walking late one night on the grounds of a rundown estate when he meets an ethereal young girl, Millie Thorman, whom the locals call the Moth, and befriends her. All seems to be going well for Robert until his cousin, Carrie, is revealed to be pregnant. Robert is immediately the suspected father, which he adamantly denies, but no one believes him. Even worse Carrie will not say who the real father is because she has always had a crush on Robert, and would rather marry him. Robert refuses to take the responsibility, shocking the townspeople, and ...

Evolution of the Peppered Moth

The evolution of the peppered moth over the last two hundred years has been studied in detail. Originally, the vast majority of peppered moths had light colouration, which effectively camouflaged them against the light-coloured trees and lichens which they rested upon. However, because of widespread pollution during the Industrial Revolution in England, many of the lichens died out, and the trees that peppered moths rested on became blackened by soot, causing most of the light-coloured moths, or typica, to die off from predation. At the same time, the dark-coloured, or melanic, moths, carbonaria, flourished because of their ability to hide on the darkened trees. Since then, with improved environmental standards, light-coloured peppered moths have again become common, but the dramatic change in the peppered moth's population has remained a subject of much interest and study, and has led to the coining of the term industrial melanism to refer to the genetic darkening of species in response to pollutants. As a result of the relatively simple and easy-to-understand circumstances of the adaptation, the peppered moth has become a common example used in explaining or demonstrating natural selection to laypeople and classroom students. en.wikipedia.org
