Wayne Morse from War Made Easy

www.WarMadeEasyTheMovie.org War Made Easy reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war line of one administration after another. War Made Easy gives special attention to parallels between the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq. Driven by media critic Norman Solomon's meticulous research and tough-minded analysis, it sets stunning examples of propaganda and media complicity from the present within the context of rare footage from political leaders and leading journalists of the Vietnam era, including Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, dissident Senator Wayne Morse, and news correspondents Walter Cronkite and Morley Safer. Norman Solomon's work has been praised by the Los Angeles Times as "brutally persuasive" and essential "for those who would like greater context with their bitter morning coffee." This film now offers a chance to see that context on the screen.

Man Behind Morse Code

Beginning in 1836, Samuel FB Morse and Alfred Vail developed an electric telegraph, which sent pulses of electrical current to control an electromagnet that was located at the receiving end of the telegraph wire. The technology available at the time made it impossible to print characters in a readable form, so the inventors had to devise an alternate means of communication. Beginning in 1837, William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone operated electric telegraphs in England, which also controlled electromagnets in the receivers; however, their systems used needle pointers that rotated to indicate the alphabetic characters being sent. In contrast, Morse and Vail's initial telegraph, which first went into operation in 1844, made indentations on a paper tape when an electrical current was transmitted. Morse's original telegraph receiver used a mechanical clockwork to move a paper tape. When an electrical current was received, an electromagnet engaged an armature that pushed a stylus onto the moving paper tape, making an indentation on the tape. When the current was interrupted, the electromagnet retracted the stylus, and that portion of the moving tape remained unmarked. The Morse code was developed so that operators could translate the indentations marked on the paper tape into text messages. In his earliest code, Morse had planned to only transmit numerals, and use a dictionary to look up each word according to the number which had been sent. However, the code was soon expanded ...

Steve Morse 8 1/2 Minute Unnamed Solo

Steve Morse playing one of my favorite melodies, its about 8 and a half minutes long and it doesn't have a name nor need one. I think he has pieces from a few different songs in there (isn't that what good songs are ;-p?): Parts from Jesus Christ Superstar and cascades I'm not your lover (and others Im sure) but ultimately combines them into a great solo here. It's from the DVD "Deep Purple Live in Australia 1999 - Total Abandon". You can truly see how vocals aren't needed to make rock beautiful...almost like Steve Morse is bringing a piece of classical into rock or something. Enjoy. NEAL MORSE - "OVERTURE No.1" - Testimony Live

Neal Morse embarked upon the most ambitious musical project of his career. Entitled Testimony (2003), it chronicles his spiritual and musical journey in words and music. The 2 CD set (3 CDs for the Special Edition) spans over two hours as one continuous piece of music. It ranges in style from a full gospel choir to hard rock; from a symphony orchestra to contemporary pop. A deftly woven musical tapestry, the album takes the listener on a fascinating journey as unique as the man behind it. Artistically, Testimony was a remarkable solo achievement, with Neal not only writing, arranging and producing; but singing the lead vocals and performing most of the instruments. Recognized as a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist, he is endorsed as a guitarist, keyboardist and singer (Yamaha, Gibson, Rode Microphones, and others). Legendary drummer Mike Portnoy performed on drums, with guest guitarist Kerry Livgren ( Kansas) on several tracks. The mainstream and CCM press alike lauded Testimony as was one of the best progressive rock albums of the year. It received numerous honors, from Progressive World (Top 5 Albums) to The National Review (10 Best of the Year). The ensuing world tour was captured on one unforgettable night at the beautiful Dutch concert hall, (named only as a number) 013, during his European tour. The performance (and tour) won him "Best Rock Tour" from the Dutch Progressive Rock Poll, besting nominees Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, RUSH and others. (Neal also won Best Album ...

Steve Morse Band - General Lee

Live in Baden-Baden, Germany, 1990 (the following review comes from: www.thehighwaystar.com ) After forming the Dixie Dregs at the University of Miami, Steve won Overall Best Guitarist from Guitar Player/Magazine's Readers Poll five consecutive years in a row (1982-1986) and was then moved to their Gallery of Greats and removed from contention in order to give other guitar players a chance. He has received many Grammy nominations, both for his work with the Dregs and as a solo artist. He has worked with dozens of famous guitarists of various musical genres, and been a member of the Dregs, Kansas, Living Loud, and (of course) Deep Purple. These performances come from 1990, a few years before he joined Deep Purple, when he was touring with the Steve Morse Band, a trio that included bassist extraordinaire Dave LaRue, and drummer Van Romaine. The DVD features two concerts culled from the vaults of the German television program Ohne Filter Show. The three exemplary musicians concoct a blend of intoxicating music -- a sound Steve Morse describes as "too rock for jazz". With Steve busy for the next year or so with Deep Purple's "Rapture Of The Deep" world tour, and Dave LaRue equally committed to touring with Joe Satriani, this may be your best chance to see the Steve Morse Band live for some time to come.

Steve Morse - Name Dropping (From "Standing Out In Their Field")

In 2009 Steve Morse joined forces yet again with Dave LaRue (Bass) and Van Romaine (Drums) for a new Steve Morse Band album. The result is an album as multi-faceted as Morse's career. "Out Standing In Their Field" is the 12th Steve Morse Band record. It combines Rock, Country, Jazz, Funk, and Classic elements and reaches an unbelievable sound spectrum. The entirely instrumental album clearly reflects the remarkable talent of Steve Morse and distinguishes the influences of the artist's musical history. on top of the fantastic 10 brand new songs, there is a special bonus track: the live recording of "Rising Power" mirrors the unique goosebumps feeling you get when attending a live concert. On the strength of Steve Morse's fascinating guitar riffs, there is no space of thinking of lead vocals are missing. Bande-Annonce VOST : MORSE

Grumpy old walrus? - Un vieux morse grincheux ?

- Walruses are pushy and noisy beasts, on land and in the water. The Cousteau team found them pretty uncooperative, too, about being filmed or recorded up close. A solitary old bull is tolerant of the humans drawing closer until a younger bull sounds an alarm call to return to the herd in the water. The extraordinary sound—like the ringing of a bell—is produced from two air sacs on either side of the animals neck.
