Mirage - The Full Experience
Rip Curl has again created a technological world-first by capturing full-tilt surfing action using a "30 camera Array" -- a line of cameras firing consistently as surfers ride towards and past it. The results are unique "frozen moments of time" - that can be viewed in a combination of angles for a true in the round perspective. Rip Curl and TimeSlice, partners in the overall development, used GoPro HD video cameras to freeze an infinite number of moments that could be viewed. The major benefit being a better way of catching all the performance surfing the Rip Curl team riders were doing, rather than just a fraction of it. Combining our world class surf team of Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Dillon Perillo and Dean Brady with the multi-frame array of cameras, gave us a Matrix style suite of "Mirage Moments", which pull the viewer in to the image, stalling there for long enough to enjoy a great move, before travelling down the line through the footage to the next Mirage Moment. Mirage Boardshort 2 - Behind Mirage
In collaboration with Timeslice Films, Rip Curl took on an ambitious bullet-time campaign shoot in Malaysia's Sunway Lagoon Wavepool with lead surfers Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, Owen Wright and Matt Wilkinson. The revolutionary campaign captures surfing in a way never seen before, with the final visuals baring more resemblance to a fight scene from the famous Matrix movies than a promotional surfing video. The two-day rental of Sunway Lagoon Wavepool allowed Rip Curl and Timeslice to operate in a more stable environment than the open ocean offers. The Rip Curl surfers were repeatedly towed into the machine-controlled waves by Jetski and their operational space was determined by the 52-camera rig set up in the pool. El Mirage 2011
My name is Brandon Schrichten and have been some what of a film maker since my early teens. I have been a part of Scott Toepfer's photo journal project, "It's Better in the Wind" since the beginning. His enthusiasm, and creative drive for his project, sparked something in me as well. I realized the opportunity to start documenting our rides would help give me a whole new perspective on the riding experience. Through the years, I lived in California and went on almost every single ride and did what I could to capture the moment. Meanwhile, Scott's project was taking off and the success of his vision made my projects get noticed. I have never been a self promoter and have always made my videos just for our friends to see, but it seems like other people started to take a liking. In the recent months, I moved to Colorado, away from all my friends and family. That meant no more fun rides every day in beautiful California. Scott has been working on a film to go with his photo journal project and this El Mirage trip was supposed to be the closing chapter on his project. I couldn't wait for this trip and wasn't going to miss it for the world. With the weather against us with rain, sleet, snow, and a tornado warning, I shoveled a path in the snow so I can load the bikes in the truck and drove off into the snow filled Rocky Mountains. Two days of solid driving and my soul was rejuvenated when I saw my friends. I have the best group of friends a guy could have and they are the life ...

Every Armin Only show brother Eller plays Armin's songs or songs related to Armin Only acoustically in hotel rooms. This time it's "Closer", by Susana. They gathered in a hotel room in Beirut, Lebanon to capture a jammed version of the song. The result is what you hear in this video. It's all authentic, without rehearsals. Note from Eller himself: "There was an error in the recording of the guitar. Some parts you hear are original, some measures are redone. The version we did was way too beautiful to do it completely over again. We didn't want to loose the moment over a bad cable, making cracky noises. It's just bits of the guitar parts, the vocals are still original. If you listen closely, you'll hear it. I tried to redo what I did in the first place, but as I was originally improvising this wasn't an easy thing to do."
