A review of the much-anticipated Linux Mint 12 'Lisa' operating system. Overall, this distribution bridges a wide gap between the traditional desktop interface, and the future desktop of Gnome 3. Top of the line open-source applications with custom Mint tools make for a very nice, albeit limited, user experience. I like the direction that Linux Mint 12 is headed, but there are still some implementation tweaks that need to be made in both Gnome 3's Mint Gnome Shell Extensions (MGSE) and the Gnome 2 fork MATE desktop environment. In his entire career as an improvisational flutist Steig has challenged the boundaries of conventional categories in music. In his first album Flute Fever (Columbia Records 1963) Steig established himself as one of the most important voices in contemporary music, setting new standards in the performance and appreciation of the flute as an improvisational instrument. Steig studied flute with Paige Brook of the New York Philharmonic. He went on to study at the High School of Music and Art in New York. Paige encouraged Steig to play "jazz" while providing him with classical tools. Emerging as a leader of the first jazz-rock band, "Jeremy and the Satyrs," followed by the release of What's New (Verve 1969) with the legendary Bill Evans proved Steig's versatility as a young musician. Steig has played and recorded with a wide variety of musicians, such as Jimi Hendrix, Tim Hardin, Jim Hall, Big Joe Williams, Junior Wells, Eddie Gomez, Art Blakey, Paul Bley, Joe Chambers, Jan Hammer, Johnny Winter and Tommy Bolin. The Beastie Boys have shaped their hit Sure Shot around Steigs flute. The recent CD Pterodactyl presents music performed by a band of flutes and bottles, all of which are played by Jeremy. The idea of managing your finances on a third-party website can be unnerving, especially after all the reports of cyber crime and loss of personal information you hear about on the news. Mint, like Quicken, is a personal financial tracking and management service based in the cloud. Unlike Quicken, Mint requires that you enter all of your personal information including your username and password to access your financial institution's site. This information is used to pull data from your bank and store it on their servers. Quicken, on the other hand, takes only the information you make available to it. Is Mint.com safe? Like any cloud service, you should approach it with an understanding that nothing is absolutely secure. Mint takes steps to maintain a secure connection, and they undoubtedly have plenty of walls between the open world and your data, but that doesn't mean someone won't eventually find a way to gain access. To be fair, it's not like an actual bank has a perfect and impenetrable force field around your data, either. Subscribe to Beth here at CookingAndCrafting: www.youtube.com Here is her thin mint brownie video: www.youtube.com Here is where I found the recipe, I have modified it slightly: picky-palate.com 13 Thin Mint Cookies (or any other minty cookie) crushed into fine crumbs 2 Tablespoons melted butter (I found the bottoms of mine to be a bit too buttery, I would recommend reducing this to 1 or 1.5 tbsp) 8 oz (250g) softened cream cheese 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg 2 1/2 tablespoons buttermilk (make your own by putting about 1/2 tsp of white vinegar in a tablespoon measure and filling to the top of with milk. Pour this into a larger container and add the additional 1/2 tbsp (to make 2 1/2 tbsp total. Stir and let sit 5 minutes before using) 5 Thin mint cookies coarsely chopped 1/4 Cup chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet, but mint chips would be great in these too) 2-3 Tablespoons heavy cream (I used one tablespoon of regular milk) Stir crushed up cookies and butter together in a medium bowl. Place 1 Tbsp of cookie mixture into 10 cupcake pans that have been well greased or lined with cupcake liners. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and the softened cream cheese. Beat in the egg and buttermilk until well combined. Pour cheesecake mixture into cupcake pans filled almost to the very top. Bake at 300F 25-30 minutes or until set all the way through. Cool for 15 minutes. Melt chocolate chips in microwave and stir in heavy cream or milk and stir until smooth and shiny. Spoon 1 ...
