12/11/2010 Minneapolis St Paul MN Metro area blizzard
The Minneapolis and Saint Paul metro region was hit hard with a record breaking amount of snow on Saturday. The cities just south and east of the metro area received 18 inches to 21.5 inches of snow. This video was shot in the southern Minneapolis, MN metro area from the Burnsville, MN area which is just south of the Minnesota River to the area around the Minneapolis International Airport and Mall of America in Bloomington and into Minneapolis itself. The snow caused hundreds of cars in the metro area to spin out and become stuck in the snow along several serious crashes with injuries. Driving was near impossible without a four wheel drive truck and even with a 4x4 truck, it was extremely difficult and dangerous to try and navigate the roadways. Heavy snow and high winds caused the Minneapolis - St. Paul International airport to shut down for a few hours until one of the four runways was able to be opened up for limited use operations. Delta Airlines, which runs about eighty percent of the airports traffic out of MSP had to cancel virtually all of its flights into and out of Minneapolis Saturday afternoon and evening. This major winter storm system stranded everyone. The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings football game which was scheduled for Sunday 12/12/2010, had to be rescheduled for Monday night due to the fact that the New York Giants football team could not fly into Minneapolis due to the blizzard. In the video there are several clips of people stuck in the snow ...
Minneapolis Architecture
Starting with Philip Johnson's acclaimed IDS Tower in 1972 (which is still, perhaps, one of the best looking skyscrapers in the country) Minneapolis has seen architecture play an increasingly important role in the fabric of the city. Recent buildings by Jean Nouvel, James Dayton, Frank Gehry, Cesar Pelli and Herzog & de Meuron, as well as classics by Minoru Yamasaki & Associates, Gunnar Birkerts and Ralph Rapson, are making the City of Lakes also the City of Architecture. This video surveys some of the buildings that have transformed the cityscape as a result of the city's considerable investment in its skyline. John Comazzi, a University of Minnesota Architecture professor, guides us around these Minneapolis landmarks, revealing some of the more interesting architectural details, facts and marvels. We start at the Walker Art Center's new addition by Herzog & de Meuron and conclude, fittingly, backstage at the new Guthrie Theatre building designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, who had this to say about the project: "At the heart of the city, the Guthrie is a machine for capturing and radiating the enveloping vistas. It condenses the landscape that unfolds around it."

Minneapolis May Day March Energized And Disciplined
About 2000 people marched down Lake Street in Minneapolis to to join with the hundreds of thousands around the world to celebrate International Workers' Day, May 1, 2012. It was a high energy crowd, but well disciplined. It was a kaleidoscope of colorful banners, signs and costumes. May Day celebrations in many other cities around the world were marked with conflict and turmoil, in Minneapolis there were no conflicts or police incidents. The march started at Lake and Nicollet and proceeded through the immigrant community on Lake Street and ended with a rally in Powderhorn Park. Participating groups represented a broad cross section of public issues: Worker's rights were foremost, but there were also banners for immigrant concerns, working conditions, FBI actions, Peace, Mexican policies, Native Americans, Socialist Workers and many other issues. Most people living in the United States know little about the International Workers' Day of May Day. For many others there is an assumption that it is a holiday celebrated in state communist countries like Cuba or the former Soviet Union. Most Americans don't realize that May Day has its origins here in this country, and stemmed from the pre-Christian holiday of Beltane, a celebration of rebirth and fertility. Labor groups were pressing for an eight hour day, working seven days a week. At its national convention in Chicago, held in 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions (which later became the American ...
My March 2012 trip to Minneapolis - getting to Minnesota (part 1/2)
Not long ago, I thought 8+ years without a vacation was going to happen again (or something close to it). Strangely enough, lately, vacations have become far more common, typically about once a year, sometimes even twice a year (once only 40 or so days apart too). In short, I define a vacation as a time span of at least 24 hours being away from home (by home, I mean by home town). A road trip is the same except that it's less than 24 hours. Trips to Bismarck go here since it's only for 12 hours at the most. This series of 10 videos covers almost everything. Be sure to read the video descriptions of each segment (skip this first paragraph since it's always the same) to learn more, especially in the cases I forgot to narrate or for corrections. Once we leave, it's a long 8-hour ride as the destination is about 550 miles away. From my math skills comes knowledge in figuring out the shortest routes. If you head directly toward your target destination, you have the least distance to cover. Unlike airplanes, helicopters, and other such vehicles that can simply hover over everything, cars have to follow the road which doesn't always mean you're heading directly toward the destination. There are 2 main routes to get there, both of which cross over Jamestown, ND. The first is to head south to Bismarck, ND then follow the freeway (I94) the rest of the way. This is about 200 to 210 miles. The second is taking US Highway 52 which generally goes to the southeast though it twists and ...

Occupy Minneapolis Forms Human Chain to Defend Foreclosed Home, Police Retreat
November 19th, 2011: Occupy Minneapolis encountered a bit more resistance from the authorities on day one of #Operation Occupy Southside than expected. Following two arrests and an incident in which a police officer tried to run down an occupier with a squad car, Occupy Minneapolis formed a human chain around Sa'ra Kaiser's foreclosed home, preventing the officers from boarding it up, and ultimately forcing the police - who had no legitimate legal pretense for preventing occupiers from being their in the first place - to give up and leave.

After Jamestown, it's all freeway, the I94, until the destination is reached where about another 2 extra miles are needed. Once on the freeway, navigation becomes much easier. From my trip in 2008 and a bit later on, I studied how the freeways were designed with careful observation (see the previous segment for the entering of the freeway). Yep, it's not just game mechanics I study, it's many things. The most useful aspect to know is how mile markers relate to exit numbers. If you're heading east (or north), the mile marker numbers increase. If you pass mile marker 58, for example, you'll see exit 58 following, provided an exit exists within that mile (out in the wilderness, it's typically 5 or so miles between exits, sometimes even ...

Minneapolis (HD)
Here is a video of Minneapolis ! Minneapolis, nicknamed "City of Lakes" and the "Mill City," is the county seat of Hennepin County, the largest city in the US state of Minnesota, and the 48th largest in the United States. Its name is attributed to the city's first schoolteacher, who combined mni, the Dakota word for water, and polis, the Greek word for city. Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. Known as the "Twin Cities," Minneapolis-St. Paul is the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the US, with 3.5 million residents. The Metropolitan Council estimated the city's population in 2009 as 386691. The city is abundantly rich in water with over twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi river, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber, and today is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle. Named America's most literate city, it has cultural organizations that draw creative people and audiences to the city for theater, visual art, writing, and music. The community's diverse population has a long tradition of charitable support through progressive public social programs, as well as private and corporate philanthropy. The region is second only to New York City in live theater per capital and is the third ...
Mob Of Black Teenage Girls Attacks White Minneapolis Mom, 4-Year-Old Daughter
Yet again, the media refuses to mention of the race of the "young ladies"... MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis mother is looking for the public's help in finding a mob of teenage girls that she says assaulted her family. The attack happened Thursday afternoon inside Folwell Park on Minneapolis' north side. Shawnee Twiet says she was in and out of consciousness when the attack happened. "As soon as I hit the ground, I just started feeling just everything coming from everywhere," Twiet said. "I mean blows coming from the back of my head. I felt somebody grabbing the back of my hair." She suffered a black eye, bruises all over her body and imprints on her back. Twiet says she was not the original victim; her two daughters were targeted first. Twiet says the group blamed her daughters for taking a pair of sunglasses. Twiet's 15-year-old called home after she said she was threatened by the group. Twiet then made the three-block journey to Folwell Park. Twiet said when she arrived at the park she saw a woman and some teenage girls crossing the street. She also saw her 15-year-old walking toward her, but she noticed that her 4-year-old daughter was missing. Twiet then called 911 and screamed for her 4-year-old daughter. While she was on the phone, Twiet saw her 4-year-old in the distance. She also saw a group of teenagers coming toward her. "Not more than three feet from me she gets to me, and I got hit in the back of my head," Twiet said. The attack had started. Still on the ...
