Michelle Kwan, the most decorated figure skater in American history, has been elected to the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame Class of 2012. The induction will take place at the 2012 Prudential US Figure Skating Championships, Jan. 22 - 29, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Fabulous skate by Michelle that many still debate should have earned her a medal. The commentary here is by the late Alan Weeks who was clearly impressed with her skating. I can't remember ever hearing him this excited for anyone other than Torvill & Dean. Alan lived - and commentated - long enough to witness Michelle win her first World title in Edmonton the next year and passed away a few months later.

However, a majority of the judges felt that she did not skate with enough abandonment when compared to teammate Tara Lipinski's skate. As such, she would placed 2nd in the Free Skate and end up winning the Silver Medal here.
