Michael Angelo Batio "Performance" DVD excerpts
Excerpts from MAB's "Performance" DVD recorded live at his studio called "Monster Mix". MAB is using a Marshall JMP-1 and a Marshall valvestate, miked, off to the side of the stacks for this DVD. He also did this in his "Star Licks" and "Speed Kills" DVDs. Those are his Marshall stacks, used by him in concert but they were used in this program only as a backdrop. People are amazed by Michael's extreme shredding performances but they don't really understand what's happening in these videos. This piece is over six minutes long and what you see and hear is what you get. This was a three-camera shoot, which allowed us to cut between cameras to make the video more visually appealing. As everybody knows, when you cut to a different camera it could be from another take. Not here. We turned all three cameras on and let them roll for twenty-four minutes. During that period of time Michael performed the piece from beginning to end three times. MAB's "Tribute to Randy" is the complete version of Michael's amazing tribute to guitar great Randy Rhoads. This version was performed live in MAB's studio and is available on Michael's "Performance" DVD available at www.angelo.com. The recorded version of "Tribute to Randy" is available on his "Hands Without Shadows" CD available at www.angelo.com Michael performed some of Randy's most famous solos in "Tribute to Randy" using a completely different approach and techniques. Randy Rhoads used tapping extensively in many of the solo sections, whereas Michael choose to use "sweep" arpeggios to re create the magic of Randy's music. Michael wanted to pay homage and respect to one of the greatest Metal Guitarists of all time - Randy Rhoads, with this tribute. Enjoy!

Until today I have always recommended Speed Kills as the ultimate advanced guitar technique program. Speed Kills has been the shredder's bible since the early 90's. It's still one of the best, but it has been surpassed today by the release of Speed Kills 3. This DVD will either inspire and motivate you beyond your current level of playing ability or convince you to find a new hobby. It's that challenging. Still, you don't have to play these exercises at 200 beats per minute to get results. Start slow and gradually increase speed until you're capable of keeping up with Michael. At least you can aspire to keep up with Michael. That's difficult. The point is, regardless of what tempo you play exercises, your dexterity, speed, and coordination will improve beyond belief. Speed Kills 3 is now regardless of what tempo you play these licks, exercises, and motifs your dexterity, speed, and coordination will improve beyond belief.

Of course, this video isn't without a quirk or two. Around 91%, I activated star power a second too late and failed the song. I thought I was doing pretty well and didn't want to scratch the whole performance, so this video is actually a composite of two seperate playthroughs. The last twenty seconds or so are from a different video with hacked "unfailable" mode on. If you're paying attention, you should be able to spot the cut. Awesome chart.
