This movie features a perfect example of what can occur when TASers will go to any extreme to sequence break a long game. Very little that is recognizable remains. Cpadolf forgoes key items, yet bothers to collect the X-Ray scope, an item normally useless to an experienced Super Metroid player. With the use of X-Ray Scope to get out of the rooms' bounds, some non-trivial physics abuse, and esoteric RAM data manipulation via dying in a certain room, the amount of tasks Samus usually has to do on Zebes has been cut to almost nothing. No boss is ever fought in this TAS, and even Mother Brain is skipped completely. The in-game completion time is 00:12. Only 6% of the items are collected. Author's Notes: "This is an improvement of 627 frames (143 frames ingame) over my last run in the same category. I got motivated to start the run due to a lot of discussion and testing breaking out about a potential upcoming 100% run, and due to some of the improvements that had been shown in recent runs. The vast majority of the improvement, over 400 frames, comes from Tourian, due to a couple of key realizations I had about the Metroid rooms during the making of the run. A lot of the rest come from better realtime optimization, in particular syncing up the screen at door transitions to minimize scrolling." More Whining About Metroid Other M and the Decline of the Metroid Series Part 1
In this, I expand on my short rant that I made during the last on-camera video I made. But more than just Other M, I talk about the decline of the Metroid series as of the past decade, at least the titles that Sakamoto likes to consider his own. Things that I didn't specifically talk about or expand on as I'd have liked to in the rant: There's a very simple term that I'd like people to remember as you watch. Show, don't tell. That's what the older Metroid games lived by, and even elements of the Prime series also adopted. I barely mentioned the Prime games simply because those are an exception to the subject that I'm talking about, both in quality, and the fact that Sakamoto doesn't agree with their way of presenting a 3D Metroid game, more specifically, Metroid Prime 1. Prime was a game that did right many of the things that Super Metroid did. Not necessarily the sequence-breaking, but the ability to interpret the situation as a player. There was an OPTION for hand-holding with the hint system if you don't like exploring, but you could choose to turn it off. Just as well, the storytelling wasn't in your face and over-exposed like Fusion and especially Other M. The storytelling in Prime was done in the environment, with the completely optional lore that would elaborate on things. The Chozo lore would be majestic and tragic, the Pirate Lore would be foreboding and sometimes be hilarious when you read their failed attempts to replicate Samus' Power Suit, things like that ...

Super Metroid 100% Speed Run w/ Narration Part 1
This is a three-year old promise, finally done, albeit none of the flashy editing, music, or anything of the like that I envisioned originally. Just a simple and clean speed run through what I consider to be the greatest game ever made, with a legacy that left its mark on the Speed Run community. It was a simple (albeit sloppy) crack at the World Record on Twin Galaxies of 100% in 1:13. This means that the game is done from start to finish in one session, no tool-assisted BS, no saving and re-trying portions of the game and going with your best portion, just a straight up run through the game uninterrupted. And while I didn't beat the record (I got it in 1:24, which is good, but I have done nearly 10 minutes better in the past) but I could send it in and make it my own record because it's never been submitted for the Virtual Console version of the game.

Let's Play Metroid Zero Mission (Hard): Part 1 - Good Start!
And so, I start my first LP of 2012! This fun little game has always been one of my favorites, which I guess it a little odd since I hated the original Metroid. This remake (well, I think the word "re-imagining" works better here) takes the core premise of the original game and fixes all of the problems I had with it. Namely: The lack of a map, lots of very similar looking rooms, better save points, not starting with only 30 health every time you die, etc. I realize the game was limited, but still; a flaw is a flaw. Regardless of that, I decided to play this game in Hard Mode (something you unlock by beating the game once, if I recall right). I remember the days where I've done LP's with as twist, and while there are various challenges I could have done with this game, I opted not to since I didn't really feel up to it. I'd much rather do a 100% run of the game since I find the item hunting aspect of the game to be one of the fun parts. So, yeah. Metroid Zero Mission! Team Ninja-developed (and other teams as well) game. Surprisingly, there is no boing-ing. But, there is DAT! Plays like modern Ninja Gaiden...or something. Compare gameplay: Metroid Fusion. Takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. Follow Metroid as he explores a ship, hop on critters, wrestles with critters, blows them up at close range, and reminiscences. Eh may or may not remember him. This playthrough goes for 1oo% item rate. For the main game, I just rush through it and collect any items that I remember and that are along the path. On the Epilogue, I do an item cleanup, fight the bonus boss (f'yeah!!), and do that one thing. I stink at this game. -_- Fail on Brug Mass and no Overblast on tree...bird...thingy. It is difficult to do it on it anyway since you need a high ledge. If you want to see the story without all the filler (read: gameplay and item collecting), download the "movie" version. No, really. Metroid: Other M: The Movie. o_o (though "The Movie" does have SOME gameplay in it.)
