water4fuel.info Tornado on June 20, 2010 rips the roof off the Rimrock Auto Arena @ MetraPark A tornado touched down in Billings Sunday afternoon around 4 pm causing severe damage to MetraPark and other buildings along Main Street in the Billings Heights. At this point no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported. BILLINGS - A tornado touching down in MetraPark on Sunday afternoon destroyed Rimrock Auto Arena and heavily damaged several Main Street businesses as it hopped across the Heights. Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy said the county will declare an emergency around 9 am Monday and send that declaration to Gov. Brian Schweitzer. Once the declaration is official, the county should have easier access to funding, Kennedy said. Schweitzer is expected to be in Billings before noon to view the damage. "A total disaster," said Yellowstone County Commissioner John Ostlund after he toured the arena Sunday. "Absolutely nothing is left of it." Not only did the tornado rip off the roof, but rain pouring into the cavernous building damaged the interior.

The car: a 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III with the 460ci V8. The jumps were so steep that when I hit them, especially the second one, it pushed the radiator into the fan, which is why it died. Also, my damn hood release is right under the front bumper, and that suffered as well. But other than the radiator... and my poor back... everything's still in working order... and I actually sold the damn car a day after I shot this video for a decent sum. :D Oh, and props to Mr Matt Senn the camera man.

I went down to Billings after a Tornado Destroyed the Metra Park Arena and many other businesses Sunday June 20th, 2010. In some places the water had settled into large puddles up to 2 ft deep. People where driving through the streets throwing water everywhere. I also went up to a high overlook and got some footage of one of the damaged areas.

Fathers Day 2010 tornado Billings, MT
It started out with my 2 year old daughter Chloe an I hiding under an awning at the bank from the golf ball sized hail but then the sirens started going off shortly after that I looked to my right to see a tornado coming in our direction not more than 2 blocks away. As much as I wanted to stay and film it I had to get Chloe as far from it as we could. I wish I could have got the close shot but after later reviewing my footage I didn't give the camera time to focus...and it is my phone so it wasn't the greatest anyways. As I am driving away I do get a pretty good shot of it out the window. In the aftermath it ripped the roof off of our arena (Metra Park), and destroyed a few businesses just blocks from where we were at. We have also been hearing reports of a lot of houses damaged. Waiting to see where it would go was not a risk I was willing to take with my daughter. If she was not with me I would have loved to stay and get more footage.
