It is an understatement to say that Adam Yauch changed all of our lives because he changed us so completely--through his music, his activism, and his friendship. Because his presence in our lives was so large, so shall be his absence. And also his legacy. I find myself now remembering above everything else his tireless work for nonviolence & Tibet, of course, but also his amazing sense of humor. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him have likely never worked so hard nor laughed so much as we did when we were in his presence. Yauch also changed what it meant to be an artist-activist. I admit that when I met him, I was skeptical of him and his interest in my work (I was a human rights activist studying & living with Tibetans in Nepal; he was the guy that sang "Fight For Your Right to Party"). But I quickly realized that he was an artist and an activist in the deepest sense of the words. Himself a spiritual seeker, Adam turned his musical genius into a force for social and political justice. Taking on the biggest colonial empire on the planet, he became a fierce advocate of Tibetan freedom. MCA Of The Beastie Boys Passes Away: Adam 'MCA' Yauch Dies Of Cancer
Adam Yauch of the hip hop group Beastie Boys sadly loses his battle with cancer at the age of 47. Adam Yauch, better known as MCA, had been undergoing treatment since he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland. Beastie Boys started as a hardcore punk group in 1979 with Yauch and bandmates Mike Diamond (known as Mike D) and Adam Horowitz (known as Ad-Rock). Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. MCA to take fishermen's woes to NEC
MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has clarified that he was not present during the National Economic Council meeting that recommended the removal of the diesel subsidy given to several types of vehicles, including the C2 class deep sea fishing trawlers. Former MCA president Ong Tee Keat has hit back at his successor Dr Chua Soi Lek for accusing him of incompetence during his tenure. Chua had dragged Ong's name into his debate with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng last Saturday, saying Ong could not lead and was hence taken down by party members in less than a year. HipHollywood spoke with an emotional LL Cool J Friday night at a charity event at the luxurious Montage Residences Beverly Hills, where the NCIS LA star remembered his friend, Beastie Boy Adam Yauch. "It hurts, the Beastie Boys helped me break into the business. I wouldn't be here, talking about the things we are doing today, if it wasn't for them," said the Rapper turned Actor. Yauch, also known as MCA, passed away Friday morning after a long battle with cancer. LL, who like the Beastie Boys, helped build the Def Jam dynasty, struggled to put into words how much he will miss Yauch. "A lot of people think it's about the fact that they were the first white rappers, but hey, those first white rappers bought into the business one of the biggest, greatest black rappers ever". LL hosted an event benefiting St.Vincents Meals on Wheels but recently was bestowed the honor of introducing the Beastie's when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
