***UPDATE*** I'm very sad to hear of the passing of Billy. He was the nicest guy you could imagine when he came in that day. He spent time with everyone signing autographs and pictures. That is the best day I've ever spent on a shoot and Billy is the reason why. I know he really liked how this turned out but I'm not sure he knew quite how much we couldn't have done it with anyone else. You are missed, Billy and thank you for a day I will remember the rest of my life. Pitchman Billy Mays is hired for one day to work in The Office. "I don't think Billy's ever worked in an office before." Created by Livemercial for the Electronic Retailers Association's 2008 Awards Gala. It was filmed at Livemercial's Headquarters in Valparaiso, IN and features Livemercial employees. Billy was kind enough to fly out and spend the day with us to shoot this. He is one funny guy. Lyle Mays and friends explore music based on physics equations, Feynman's speech patterns and more, using improvisation, algorithmic composition, live video mixing, and a custom designed linked laptop network. Lyle Mays has been an integral part of the Pat Metheny Group since its inception in 1977, and has co-written much of the consistently engaging music for the multi-Grammy-winning group's albums. Lyle's sense of melody, crystal clear virtuosity and almost cinematic scope of orchestration has clearly distinguished the group's sound. Born into a musical family in Wausaukee, Wisconsin, in 1953, he was always encouraged to explore new forms of expression. As a teenager, Lyle attended jazz summer camps and studied with such talents as Rich Matteson and Marian McPartland. He then studied composition and arrangement at North Texas State University before touring with Woody Herman's Thundering Herd. While appearing at the 1975 Wichita Jazz Festival, Lyle met twenty-year-old guitarist Pat Metheny, and the two formed a musical alliance that has proven to be among the most artistically successful of the past three-plus decades. Performers include: Jimmy Branly (drums), Rich Breen (audio engineer), Jon 9 (visualization), Andrew Pask (woodwinds), Bob Rice (guitar and digital sounds), and Tom Warrington (bass). www.billytaylorjazz.net presents Mundell Lowe with Billy Taylor's Trio performing True Blue, featuring Earl May on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums. BORN IN LAUREL, Mississippi, Mundell left home at the age of thirteen. After working in Nashville, he found his way to Bourbon Street in New Orleans and the beginning of his jazz career. While serving in World War Il, he met the influential John Hammond, who introduced him to Ray McKinley. Mundell worked with McKinley's band for a year and a half, developing his distinctive instrumental style, and then moved on to work in New York at Café Society and stints at the Village Vanguard and The Embers, among others. Mundell worked with Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Helen Humes and Charles Mingus, to name but a few. These gigs overlapped with an early morning TV show at NBC with Cy Coleman, "A Date in Manhattan," and later "The Kate Smith Hour" with Stan Getz, Doc Severinsen, and Kai Winding. FROM THE EARLY FIFTIES to the mid-Sixties, he was an active performer, working with George Duvivier on bass and Ed Shaughnessy on drums in Dave Garroway's "Today Show" studio band. He also played with the extraordinary pianist Hank Jones when they both worked in the NBC and CBS orchestras of the early Fifties. After seventeen years at NBC as a guitarist and arranger, Lowe was transferred to the News and Special Events Department to work as a composer. In 1980, he became the first player in MLB history to have two multi-home run games in the same World Series.
