what is matter?
Everything in the world is made up of solids, liquids and gases. These are known as the three states of matter. They are all substances that have mass and take up space because they have volume. All those things around you are made of matter, so are you, as are the Earth and stars in the sky. Solids, liquids and gases are made of molecules, which contain one or more atoms. In a solid, the molecules are bound together so strongly that its shape usually stays the same. In a liquid, the molecules are more loosely connected so that the liquid flows easily but has a level surface. In a gas the molecules move randomly in any direction so that the gas has no shape.

SONG FACTS: Singer and rhythm guitarist "James Hetfield" wrote this song while he was on the phone with his girlfriend at this time. Since he held the phone with one hand, he plucked the four open strings of a standard E-minor chord with the other, which eventually made up the first two bars of the song. The lyrics were also dedicated to his girlfriend, which talk about being "so close, no matter how far", indicating the bond they shared even when Hetfield was on tour. Initially, the song was not meant to go on the album, and Hetfield had written it for himself, but only after drummer Lars Ulrich heard it was it considered for the record. This is one of the few Metallica songs where James Hetfield played the guitar solo rather than Kirk Hammett. Hetfield explained this song to Mojo magazine December 2008. Said the Metcallica singer: "It's about being on the road, missing someone at home, but it was written in such a way, it connected with so many people, that it wasn't just about two people, it was about a connection with your higher power, lots of different things." Hetfield added: "I remember going to the Hell's Angels Clubhouse in New York, and they showed me a film that they'd put together of one of the fallen brothers, and they were playing Nothing Else Matters. Perception - The reality beyond matter
Science is a story written by installments over time, and since so much information gets updated these days, I one day found myself wondering... What is "reality"? Is matter all that is real? One thing is for sure - change. That might seem like a silly question given how we use our senses to interact with 'reality' everyday, but I have since arrived at ideas which I am comfortable with regarding these questions (although Im still curious). So heres some questions to play with - play nicely :-) If I had to point to where my idea or concept of reality is maintained, Id be pointing to my head - how about you? Is all this environmental information just vibrational energies which are presented to our body and then decoded to form a perception in the brain according to our programs and patterns? ie: Do we subconsciously 'read' or filter this data then build an experience that seems real? Can I get outside of my experience to prove anything is fact or real, or is reality bound to ones experience like the fabric to the shirt? What of the realities I have when I dream, - my body still responds as if they are real, so what is reality? If I am not the cause (creator) of my experience; the director of my focus of attention on some level whether awake or asleep, am I controlled by something else? And if I am completely controlled by something other than me, what then is the purpose of my life? I wish you all - many pleasant realities. Pete.
