UPDATE, 11/19/2011: Over half a million views. What else can I say? Wait, I got an embed from Time Magazine? HLOY SIHT Wait, they linked to this on the Top Gear website? WHOA Gameplay from the Super NES game Super Mario Kart, emulated in ZSNES. The start of a legend of gaming. The original SMK was unbalanced, brutal, and unrefined. It was also pretty much unlike anything we'd ever seen before. It was a racing game, something we'd seen before, but with Mario characters and items. It let us not only race the game, or our best times, or each other, but it also let us turn our aggression, built over the course of CPU-administered beatings, onto each other in direct battle. No wonder it spawned imitators. No wonder it's a fixture on Nintendo systems. No wonder it's a favorite. UPDATE, 6/7/2008: Geez, nearly 1500 views in a month. Most of my videos don't get that in three or four months. Some don't even get it in six. Thanks. UPDATE, 7/22/2008: Less than three months and this video has over 4000 views. Super Mario Kart Played with an Exercise Bike
Rigged an exercise bike up to an old Super Nintendo controller using An Arduino microcontroller, some sensors/switches and some transistors. Peddling at a certain rate holds down the A button to accelerate, left and right are buttons on the handlebars and there is a red button in the middle of the handlebars for using special items. I have another video I'll upload soon which better describes the bike controller. EDIT: There is a quick overview of how it works here: statuswoe.blogspot.ca including a link to the github project where my very quickly written android sketch is available. I'm hoping to put up schematics of both the bike and SNES Adapter (part of which actually uses an SNES controller) there when I get the chance. For anyone interested in seeing it work with a non-SNES game Mike McGraw and I came up with a game/adapter that is played on a Computer via USB. All the shortcuts in this video can be done without any items! The game has been out for exactly 3 months now going by the North American release date so I felt like it was time to finally make a shortcuts video. ^^ 3:34 yeah, I see there is a shroom involved in this one because this shroomless shortcut through the pillars leads into the next one through the mud. =P 0:45 this glitch cut shroomless is much easier with the slick wheels but can also be done with the gold wheels. If you can't pull some of these off, get 10 coins before attempting and try to use the same combination I am. In case people want to know, this was recorded using the iPhone 4s. SNES Rainbow Road in Mario Kart Wii! (Custom Track) - Nintendo WFC (8 players)
So, my brother (Chadderz) being the genius that he is has managed to figure out solidity on a basic level. So, I returned back to my old SNES Rainbow Road model hack and completely changed it, reconstructing the models and texturing, checkpoints, item routes, AI routes, etc. And Chadderz added in solidity, not 100% perfect but it's very good indeed. The result is what you see here; the old alpha model hack cannot compete with this. This is our best work to date. I wondered what the best way to demonstrate this new course would be, so I organised an event: An invitation for any hackers capable of using the SZS Modifier or running texture/model hacked courses to participate in a recorded GP around SNES Rainbow Road. The result was a grand total of 8 players across 6 Wiis, which is fantastic ;) I will only upload the first part of the GP (first 2 races) because sadly after that one quite a few people were disconnected.
