Manfrotto Modosteady 585 Steadycam
This is a test with the ModoSteady Steadycam. I bought this cam stabilizer to test it out for a movie I'm working on. This is the 1st time I'm using the steadycam and this is what I think about it. This is definitely not a pro quality rig but it serves its purpose i guess. You get what you pay for. I have seen homemade rigs that have better results. www.learningdslrvideo.com First off I gotta say this is one of my favorite tools I have reviewed in a long time and I am not sure B&H is going to get this back from me because I love this thing. StillMotion has talked about the Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 Monopod in many of their videos in the past saying how much they love and use this thing and I would have to agree with them. It is so versatile and so quick to move around and capture shots so much faster than with an normal tripod, I know for sure if I was not using this that I would have missed shots because of setup time or if I tried to handhold the camera it would have been so shakey that the footage would have been unusable. The monopod comes with the fluid head and this thing can go tall much higher than I need at 6'-3". Hello, Right now I am going to be giving you a review on the Manfrotto 501HDV Fluid Video Head and the 055XPROB Legs. These two together are about $450 for the pair and to me it's a very worthy pair. So far I am really liking it! It's can hold anything I throw at it and it's very durable. It's been knocked over by wind countless of times. If you are looking for a combo that will give you the kind of results of a similar $1000 tripod/legs combo then I suggest you look into this head or legs. Both are great and both offer many features. I found this to be an invaluable tool for some of my run and gun video work with smaller DSLR cameras. I picked this one up for around a buck twenty five from B& H photo. Review: Manfrotto Travel Tripod
Tripod: t.co Quick connect: t.co My tripod is a Manfrotto 7302YB, catchy name I know. The tripod I've linked to looks to be a newer model, and if you want the quick connector you will need to buy it separately. The cost of those 2 items together is about what I paid when I bought my tripod and they came all together. You won't ever regret having a quick connect mount on your tripod, it makes life so much easier when setting up for a quick shot. I have used an abused this tripod. Brought home covered in mud and soaked in rain many times on my rides around Panama and I have been very impressed by how strong it is. When I hurt my leg on the Cerro Banco trip I used it as a cane as I hiked for hours to and from the waterfall. Stopping at small rivers once in a while to wash the mud that gathered up on the bottom. I do wish it would fit better in my luggage, but taking everything into account like size, weight, cost, and quality I really believe this is the best tripod on the market for a traveling film maker on a budget. I've abused mine for over a year now and it still looks brand new.

DIY Manfrotto Video Head Accessory Adapter (SmallHD DP4 Mount)
This week on Your Video Tips we discuss how to make a very simple adapter to allow the use of standard 4-20 threaded video accessories with the metric threaded mount common to Manfrotto video heads. Normally this metric location is used to mount the Pan Tilt handle. If you're like me you may have always thought it would be nice to be able to attach either a light, microphone, or monitor to that mounting point. In this video I show you how easy it is to make a simple adapter that is very strong and allows you to mount any standard accessory to the side of your Manfrotto video head. In this video I am using the Manfrotto 561BHDV Monopod which is a great tool for producing stable video at events such as weddings where floor space is a premium and a monopod can give you the little extra bit of stability. For this project you will need a 4-20 coupler and a metric M6 1.0 threaded bolt. I used a stainless steel bolt to negate the need to use a threader to get the metric bolt into the 4-20 coupler. Have fun with all the new options you have for a compact mounting solution on your next gig. Cheers Mark
