Mbuna from Lake Malawi - Interesting Facts
In this video I will try and give you the viewer an in-depth and better understanding of Mbuna. Mbuna (pronounced mboo-na) is the common name for a large group of African Cichlids from Lake Malawi. This lake, the third largest in Africa and the eighth largest lake in the world is reportedly the habitat of more species of fish than any other body of freshwater on Earth, including more than 1000 species of Cichlids. Mbuna require hard water and PH levels between 7.2 to 7.8, being a warm water fish the Temperature should be kept between 78 - 82°F The name Mbuna means "rockfish" in the language of the Tonga people of Malawi.[1] As the name implies, Mbuna are the Cichilds that live among piles of rocks - There's also some Mbuna who spend more time in the shallow sandy . The diversity of species is truly amazing, with new species being discovered at a prolific rate. They have fascinating personalities that will keep you staring at your aquariums for hours. They're highly territorial and can be quite aggressive towards their counter parts, defending their patch of rock or breeding area. In the Lake they can be found in large groups of their own kind accompanied by dozens of other species. Mbuna can reach up to 7" for example Yellow Tail Acei can reach 7" but the smaller of the Mbuna (Known as Dwarf Mbuna) will max out at around 3.5-4" For example Demasoni Pombo Rocks are classed as Dwarf Mbuna and can grow up to 4". Foremost, Mbuna are algae -- grazing Cichlids (classed as ...

530L African Cichlid Malawi/Mbuna Tank
Tank: Akvastabil Effect-Line 530L. Thousands Gather To Welcome Malawi President's Remains
AFP -- A sombre mood fell over Malawi as scores of people welcomed home the body of late president Bingu wa Mutharika, flown back from South Africa Saturday following his fatal heart attack. Thousands of Malawians waited with new President Joyce Banda as a South African military aircraft touched down at Kamuzu International Airport shortly after 1415 local time (1215 GMT), bearing the remains of a man known both as the "father of the nation" and an oppressive "Mr Know-it-all". A 21-gun salute sounded as South Africa's military handed Mutharika's brown casket draped with the Malawi flag — a red sun rising over black, red and green horizontal bars — to Malawian officers on the airport tarmac. The armed forces mounted a guard of honour for Mutharika as a military brass band played solemn music. Bishop Joseph Zuza, head of the Malawi Catholic Church, offered prayers invoking God to "forgive the sins" of Mutharika, and Malawians to "pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace." Zuza, an outspoken cleric who once criticised Mutharika for his "bad economic policies", said the mourners had gathered to welcome the body with "sorrow and love because death is not the end of everything, but the beginning of a new life." The crowd was not left unmoved. "The reality that we have a funeral has sunk in among residents of the capital city. We want to give our dear leader a hero's welcome from South Africa," said Richard Phiri, a supporter of Mutharika's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP ...

Christmas in Malawi 2011
December 14, 2011 - Today was the day of the event. On our way to the stadium, it was stunning on how many children were walking from long distances just to get there. By 8 I would say the stadium was a bit more than ½ full and the children were in uniform and seated according their schools. A total of 19 public and 3 private schools attended the activity. Glory to God the event went as He planned and not by our own will. We were short of staff, but we managed to get thing under control with the help of some teachers. The highlight of the day was the Jesus formation by 5 different schools in different school uniform. After the formation the whole stadium shouted JESUS three times. The evangelist taught the Children the song "My hands are blessed with the blessings of the Lord". Take note that most of the 20000 Children have never eaten bread , peanut butter or tasted honey before. We were informed that AMFC has just introduced a new diet to the Children and to Malawi. All the Children and the adults loved it. Out of all those kids we praise God there was no allergic reaction to the peanut butter. A couple of the schools participated in the event with plays and presentations. All the children received a cup, sandwich, and a bag from AMFC. We prayed for no rain and there was NO rain while dark clouds and rain was all around us except for the stadium. When it was time to leave, there were two rainbows, in which I know it was a sign from God letting us know He was pleased.
