Taking apart a magnetron from a microwave for the magnets...

www.crazyfishfarmer.com Be aware off disassembling a magnetron! Some types contain beryllium oxide ceramic insulators. Beryllium oxide is very dangerous if inhaled. Lead to berylliosis, an nasty incurable lung condition. http en.wikipedia.org modhurin08 There are 2 magnets present (usually samarium cobalt type) to give a uniform B field inside the tube. Without a uniform field from cathode to anode, the electrons won't follow a trajectory that remains inside the resonator cavities, hence giving poor or no microwave output. And, word to the wise: you can't tell by looking if there's BeO in the ceramic. No magnet is worth a painful death...just buy them for Taking apart a magnetron from a microwave for the magnets...

Magnetron

MagnetronMagnetrons are specific microwave devices. The word itself is the synthesis of the Greek words magnet and electron. Magnetrons are diode devices, they are designed for generating microwave waves. Inside magnetrons electrons interact with the electric constituent of the microwave fields. Theinteraction takes place in the conditions, when the constant electric field and the magnet field are perpendicular to each other. The magnetron is quite massive. It consists of the anode block, which is a metal cylinder with thick walls with symmetrically positioned 8 -40 cavities. The cavities serve as resonators forming a ring oscillating system. The system is decelerating. The interaction of the electrons and the electromagnetic wave takes place within it. Every cavity is connected by means of a chink with the central opening, where the cathode is situated. The magnetic field parallel to the axis is created by the external constants or electromagnets. The microwave energy is radiated by the antenna, which is usually presented by a wire loop, fixed on one of the resonators, or the opening of one of the resonators outside the cylinder. Inside the resonators the electron bunch and the electromagnetic wave interact. As the ring construction system is self-locked, it may be excited by specific vibrations only. The system has several resonance frequencies, when a whole number of standing waves is laid within the ring oscillating system. Oscillations are most efficient when the ...

Magnetron Technology: The reinvention of the auto-locking carabiner, coming July 2012

Throughout the decades, we've been at the forefront of revolutionary carabiner design here at Black Diamond Equipment—from Yvon Chouinard's original ovals; to the climbing world's first-ever wiregate, the HotWire; to the crossload-eliminating belay carabiner, the GridLock. Never satisfied with the status quo, we're always striving to develop the next great carabiner design innovation, which has led us to our latest game-changing advancement: Magnetron Technology™. What's so special about Magnetron Technology? One word: magnets. Yes, that's right—locking carabiners that utilize magnets and not twistlocks or screwlocks on the gates. Available on select locking carabiners in July 2012, our patent-pending Magnetron Technology is so revolutionary we decided to share a sneak preview with you now to get you stoked. Here's the basics: using the power of magnetic fields to reinvent the locking carabiner, the Magnetron GridLock and the Magnetron RockLock locking carabiners combine maximum security and ease of use like never before. • Magnetic attraction to a steel insert in the carabiner nose keeps two independent arms securely locked • Locking arms must be individually depressed before the gate can be opened • Once open, opposing magnetic fields repel the arms to ensure smooth and reliable gate operation • Symmetrical design allows for easy one-handed operation (right or left) For an in-depth look at the concept and development of Magnetron technology, watch this video, and then ...

Hollow Cathode Magnetron Part 1

www.surfacetreatments.it The research item consisted in enhancing the ionization efficiency of a plasma confined in a circular magnetron discharge on the top of the target. Several approaches are possible for the plasma densification: from a special design of the magnetic confinement up to the inductive coupling of plasma with microwaves. We have investigated the possibility to booster a planar magnetron with a linear hollow cathode, acheving the result of an increase of the plasma ionization index, an increase of the sputtering rate, and the opening the plasma cone. DC Magnetron Ion Source

The purpose of an ion source inside a IEC fusion device is to allow fusion to occur readily at pressures lower than plasma would normally form. This test was done at approximately 3 microns. With such a source, nuclear reactions can be produced with no visible plasma on the grid itself, Ie no recombination and less collisionary heating heat. This also allows for higher voltages to be applied following paschen's curve. 0:00 to 0:35 ion gun only, playing with pressure ranges and observing plasma formations. 0:35 main grid on, ion gun switched on/off at various points. Hollow Cathode Magnetron Part 2

www.surfacetreatments.it Magnetron sources are worldwide used for the deposition of thin films for various applications from the functional to the decorative, for coating medical devices and for telescopes, for the semiconductor field as well as for depositing superconductors. The plasma densification in a Magnetron is a major theme of research in Physical Vapour Deposition Technology. One possibility consists in adding a standard linear hollow cathode on the top of the magnetron for the electron injection inside the magnetic trap on the top of the magnetron. Our investigation refers to a totally new and original approach: to surround a circular magnetron by a circular hollow cathode. Magnetron #1 - Lighting A Dead Compact Fluorescent Bulb

I had a bunch of components lying around near the bench so I decided to hook up a magnetron and see what it would do. My first choice was this otherwise useless light bulb. The magnetron works well and makes this little bulb light up as I move it around with a very long handled chicken stick. Do not attempt this experiment at home, it poses an electrical and microwave hazard. I hope that you enjoyed this video, please Like and Subscribe for more tech videos.

DIY Extension cord, magnetron magnets, and backpack tool bag

Hi, This is an extension cord that I made from a discarded vacuum. Most of the floor models with retracting cords have one of these inside. I have heard that some of the older hoovers have crome ones... Neato skeeto. The cylindrical magnets are out of a washer dryer combo LG unit. If you own one of those then you know that the pumps go out often, these sweet magnets are inside the pump. Be careful when removing 'em because they're delicate and easy to crack. The Magnetron magnets are located on either end of the magnetron which is located inside any Microwave oven. The backpack tool bag helps me keep my balance without putting strain on my back by carrying a heavy tool bag on one side.

Electrostatically Unbalanced Magnetrons.wmv

www.surfacetreatments.it In magnetron sputtering with a suitable magnetic field configuration it is also possible to control the microstructure, chemical and phase composition of the growing film. Besides balanced discharges, two types of unbalancements are possible: type I and type II. In type I, the plasma that is not strongly confined on the target, does not interact with the substrate. This magnetic assessment is specially used for sputtering multi-compositional films containing low melting point elements. In type II the plasma is confined both on the target and in a secondary confinement that bombards the growing film with a flux of ions extracted from the plasma. In such latter case, the ion bombardment has an effect of "plasma washing" of the film in the mean time it grows. Impurities weakly bounded to the film are knocked out from the impinging ions. That results into a strong increase of purity of the films in the substrate regions touched by plasma, while all the rest has higher impurity content. In the magnetron source we built, it is possible to pass from the balanced to unbalanced regime, just changing the magnetic core, without breaking vacuum. The drawback of magnetically unbalanced configurations is that the plasma cone flushin the substrate has very narrow dimensions. We have developed an electrostatic imbuto that opens the cone of plasma extending the unbalancement effect to larger dimension substrates. www.surfacetreatments.it

Magnetron #2 - An Old Circuit Board

This time I sat an old circuit board in front of the magnetorn and fired up, hoping for an electrolytic capacitor to explode. It took a little while, but one finally did pop, moving the board away from the magnetron. This should not be tried at home due to the electrical and microwave hazards. I hope that you enjoyed this video. Please Like and Subscribe for more tech videos.

magnetron and small neon bulb

this is a microwave magnetron being fired at a small neon bulb, how ever the wire supporting the bulb at the top for some reason gets very very hot very quick and burns through the wood, i think this may be because the wire matched the wave length of the microwaves(12.5cm)i must say how ever this experiment is extremely dangerous and should not be attempted with out the proper knowledge of working with such a device, i can not and will not be held responsible if u kill ur self.

Dangers of Dismantling a Magnetron

Magnetron #4 - A Test Tube Of Water

I placed a test tube with a little water in it just in front of the magnetron and powered up. This is not the most efficient way to boil water, but it did work. This experiment should not be tried at home as it poses high voltage and microwave hazards. I have taken precautions that don't show on camera. Hope you enjoyed the video, please Like and Subscribe for more tech videos.

Magnetron #6 - Irradiating A Vacuum Jar

The magnetron has been set up on the bench and this time the target is a vacuum jar. The air has been sucked out to a large degree by my mechanical roughing pump. The magnetron emitter is about 5mm from the glass. A pinkish purple plasma shows, characteristic of nitrogen. Some static-like sparks jumped from the emitter to the glass, these are shown in a closeup. These sparks drilled a clean smooth 1mm hole through the glass, breaking the vacuum and stopping the experiment until I filled the hole with epoxy. Magnetron #7 - Some Vacuum Tubes

The magnetron has been set up on the bench and this time the target will be some old vacuum tubes. The first target is a gassy 6KD6 which glows quite brightly for a while. It survives unpunctured. The next tube was a 6AF9 and an arc jumped to it. This burned a hole through the glass and the tube's plate. I hope that you enjoyed this video, please Like, and Subscribe for more tech videos. Check out my channel!

Magnetron #8 - Will It Interfere With A 2.4GHZ RC Plane?

I set up the magnetron and placed a cheap rc plane 1 meter from the magnetron. The idea was to see if the plane would respond to control signals once the magnetron was turned on. The plane did respond properly during the time the magnetron was active. The only effect was that the elevator vibrated slightly when the magnetron was on. A Spektrum DX4 TX was used, RX was an OrangeRX from HK. The TX was 5m from the model and magnetron. The plane was unharmed and still flies after the experiment. I hope that you enjoyed this video. Magnetron Sputtering of CoFe and Permalloy

In this video you are watching the sputtering of CoFe and Permalloy on a 3 inch Si wafer. The first faint plasma is the CoFe sputtering. When the CoFe gun shuts off the screen goes dark and the Permalloy gun is turned on. The plasma from the Permalloy deposition follows the path of the magnetic field.

GE Microwave Magnetron Replacement And Component Testing

This video shows how I was able to replace the magnetron on a 2007 GE microwave oven. The magnetron was under warranty, but they want an outragous amount of money to come and install it, so I did it myself. I got the replacement magnetron mailed to my house from GE parts at no charge. The video also shows some of the testing I did on other componets while I waited for the magnetron to arrive. There is a diode with a couple of connectors and some shrink tubing that I test in the video. Some appliance part vendors are charging $30 to $50 for this $3 part! The most interesting part is the diode testing, which is at the beginning of the video. The rest is just taking out the bad magnetron and putting in the good one. Then finally hooking up the diode again and pluggin in the microwave for a quick test.

Microwave Magnetron Fail

The magnetron is failing in my microwave. Time to get a new one. The smell was toxic to say the least. Taken with iPhone 4, so pardon the quality.
