My Favorite Video Game Magazines
Although we get most of our video game news from the web, I don't believe print to be dead. Other than exclusives, video game magazines may not be timely sources of news, but they often carry interesting perspective, entertaining features and great photo spreads. In this video, I talk about three of my favorite mags: GamesTM A multiplatform UK mag loaded with content, great articles and articulate reviews. In the US, GamesTM is available at bigger bookstores like Barnes & Noble, and despite its hefty import price, is quite worth it. Nintendo Power Sort of whimsical without sacrificing worthwhile content, Nintendo Power is packed full of great information in every issue, including interviews, collectibles and retro reviews. Retro Gamer A UK based sister publication to GamesTM, Retro Gamer is arguably my favorite magazine. Also available at big US bookstores (and at pricey subscription rates), Retro Gamer is packed full of entertaining and informative articles. After reading every issue, I feel like I've learned tons of new things about gaming history.

If a magazine needs to tell you that magazines are still important, is it already too late? The news predicts the end of magazines or the switch to a fully digital reading experience with regularity, yet many of us still have magazines arriving every month. In this video Chris points out some of the tactics magazines and their advertisers are using to remain relevant. Using the iPad to raise awareness of the Samsung Epic by surrounding articles with Samsung Epic ads. He shows us how Microsoft can't standardize on their own 2D code standard as Microsoft Sync uses a Microsoft Tag (the alternative to QR Codes) in an ad, while Windows 7 advertising contains a QR Code. On May 18, 2012, members of the National Geographic/The North Face expedition to Mount Everest called in from Base Camp for a Google Hangout to answer questions about their experiences on the mountain. Climbers include expedition leader Conrad Anker, Sam Elias, Emily Harrington, Hilaree O'Neill, Kristoffer Erickson and Mark Jenkins. Members of the Base Camp support team are Andy Bardon, Phil Henderson, Landon Bassett, Derek Campbell, Anjin Herndon, and Max Lowe. The team seeks the summit near the end of May.
