It was first climbed in 1970 by climber and poet Ed Drummond together with Oliver Hill. They took 7 days to climb the cliff, sleeping on ledges and in hammocks along the way. Now, 40 years later, one of the World's top climbers, Dave MacLeod, sets out to climb the cliff in a single day, finishing with a new desperately hard final pitch up the headwall. Macleod's historic new climb, The Longhope Route Direct (E11), is captured close-up with the latest HD cameras and contrasted with the challenges of Drummond's first ascent through interviews and archive material. The film also follows Drummond, now in his late sixties and suffering from Parkinson's disease, as he makes a pilgrimage back to St John's Head to look upon the route one last time.

This week we bring back Alasdair Macleod, publisher of Finance and economics.org, because, as he puts it "every horror that we discussed last time we spoke is coming about". Especially scary since our previous conversation with him was less than three weeks ago... Today's interview continues building on his excellent synopsis from last month that detailed the origins of the Eurozone crisis. The fundamental shortcomings warned of at the Euro's creation in 1997, combined with the excessive sovereign debts run up since then, have finally expressed themselves at a scale too large to be contained any longer. Today, Alasdair details in-depth the huge and serious challenges facing Greece and the major Eurozone countries, and the likely impacts of the fast-dwindling options left remaining. He sees no happy ending to this story, no outcome in which serious pain and permanent behavior change can be avoided. And for those looking for shelter from the unfolding economic storm, he sees few options besides the precious metals (which he believes are severely under priced at the moment).

Interview between Alasdair Macleod and James Turk
In this video, James Turk interviews Alasdair Macleod, Founder and Proprietor of financeandeconomics.org. Alasdair explains why he started his blog almost 2 years ago. His aim is to inform educated people about finance and economics, with an angle towards sound money. During the interview he looks back on his active career in the UK and how he acquired the knowledge he has. They also discuss the collapse of the Slater Walker bank in 1975 in the UK and the preceding boom-bust period. There are clear comparisons to today's dangerous situation, where governments try to control the situation with more money and credit. According to Alasdair governments got themselves in a cycle of money and credit production where they can't get off from. Central bankers and politicians make the wrong decisions. Statistics like GDP and inflation numbers are being misrepresented. Alasdair refers to gold and silver as the only sound money out there. He is very bearish on paper currencies. He elaborates on the COMEX as well as on the huge short positions taken by central banks and bullion banks. The video was recorded in London in advance of the Cheviot Sound Money conference held the day after.
