Lyre Bird
A Lyre Bird I encountered at Morton National Park, NSW, Australia. When I heard it sing I walked off track into the bush to see if I could spot it and it jumped into my face and started to sing. So I recorded the songs it sang with my mobile phone and then I played back his own songs to him after which he probably saw me as competition. Trying to impress me even more and oversing his own songs I played back to him, he started singing even more impressive songs. This video is from the end of the Lyre bird experience where he kind of tried out his complete repertoire. He won in the end as I of course walked on ;)
Lyre Bird - Sherbrooke Falls
A lyrebird that startled me while I was photographing Sherbrooke Falls. Apparently (she) saw fit to make a bunch of (boring bird) noise to warn its nearby mate of my being there. EDIT: Thanks to the comments for pointing out that it is a female and not a male.

Lyre Bird in Wollemi National Park NSW, Australia
This is a Lyre Bird that we came across whilst bushwalking along the Wolgan River in the Wollemi National Park in New South Wales, Australia. This bird is known for mimicking other bird calls, and can be seen here doing impersonations of a Whip Bird, a Rosella (a parrot native to East Coast of Australia), a Black Cockatoo and a couple of others that we couldn't recognise. I just missed catching it do a Kookaburra impersonation. Generally these birds are very shy of humans, so this was an amazing display it put on for us.

Lyre Bird song
Lyre Bird (Sacrilege) www.myspace.com This song was inspired by a clip in The Life of Birds in the Sir David Attenborough series. I saw the clip of the Lyre Bird which is a mimic bird which can produce the sound of a chainsaw perfectly. I was pretty horrified by this as it meant that the chainsaw was nearby and the birds habitat was going to be destroyed but to add fuel to my fire, that clip had been voted 'The Nations Favourite David Attenborough moment', which to me is very wrong. To me, if anything, it should have been the nations most awful moment a bit like a nightmare.
