My very own lullaby. I listen to this every night before I go to sleep and it gives me a reason to wake up in the morning. Since all of you are sharing your life stories in the comments, I thought I'd tell you mine. I'm 14 and I kinda act a lot more mature than the rest, you know like taking stuff seriously, not partying every night, trying to do my best in school, knowing what I'll do in my future. There isn't a day when my classmates don't make me feel different and unwanted. Home's no picnic either. My mom and dad divorced a long time ago and my mom married another guy. I still see my dad, but he doesn't like most things I do and he doesn't understand me. My mom and my step-dad don't get along very well for the past year and I can hear them fighting at night, when they think me and my little half-sister are asleep. I trusted all my problems and everything else to my best friend that I hung out with for the past 7 years, but we recently got in a fight and she left me. The first time I thought about killing myself was when I was 13. I was walking home from a really bad day in school and when I was crossing a viaduct, I stopped and looked over the edge, down to the highway beneath. I thought to my self if it's even worth to go home and how nice would it be to jump and just end everything. But I didn't have the nerve to do it. I still don't, but ever since then, the idea of killing myself is stuck in my head. Some days are good and I don't even think of it and other days ...

In honor of the movie's recent release, I figured now would be a good time to finally listen to what everyone's been saying, haha. First of all, let me go ahead and say that THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE OFFICIAL MELODY FOR THIS SONG... I'm aware that there's an official version out that goes with the movie's soundtrack, but this is my own personal melody and arrangement! I considered just covering the movie one, but I instead opted to record the version that's been floating around in my head for a few months now. It's very different than most of the melodies out there and kind of melancholy rather than sweet, which I know some people might not be keen on, but I hope you guys like it! It is my thank you for all of the wonderful support you've shown for my "Hanging Tree" arrangement - the overwhelming response to it still blows my mind! Al McLean - Brahms Lullaby
Music Available on iTunes: itunes.apple.com Montreal saxophonist Al McLean turns the children's lullaby genre on its head in his new series, 'Jazz Lullabies'. Sheer beauty emanates from this arresting arrangement of the ubiquitous Brahms Lullaby (Wiegenlied: Guten Abend, gute Nacht, Op. 49, No. 4), a taut, simple and lush delivery holds us in a spellbinding emotional tension. McLean has remained loyal to the original Brahms piece, but has added just enough development to create a meaningful harmonic space to improvise within. A simple interlude is fashioned from a fragment of the melody, and functions as a reprieve, or palate cleanser, preparing the performer and listener to journey into the familiar form. This is a familiar story, retold with all of the lush riches of the Jazz Language. It should be noted that Al McLean is performing on a rare and ornate saxophone dating to 1931. The instrument is a Martin Handcraft Troubadour, and is the predecessor to the celebrated 'Committee' series of Martin saxes. McLean can be regularly heard playing a variety of rare early 20th Century saxophones including his primary tenor, which was handcrafted in 1917. The unique and varied characters of the early saxophones is a significant part of the 'McLean mystique', adding an unpredictable, and often unruly element to his performances. This suits McLean fine, as he asserts, 'why would I play on an ordinary, modern horn if it doesn't bring any special character to the music?'
