"I giorni" di Ludovico Einaudi. Why a hippo? This is the question. Official answer: "The inspiration for Ludovico Einaudi's I Giorni was a 12th-century folk song from Mali about a hippopotamus who was cherished by the residents of a nearby village but killed by a hunter. 'The song,' writes Einaudi in his succinct liner note, 'is sung as a lament for the death of a king or a great person or for the loss of a loved one.' The result is a tender and introspective set of 14 piano pieces. This work was written after Einaudi heard the kora playing of Toumani Diabate whilst travelling in Mali." Unofficial answer: "Hippo was a cryptic message, for a person but I did not think that all these people would have seen this video, I didn't think that all these people (in the world!) knew Ludovico Einaudi :D" ... sorry for my English.

This was the first and only take I recorded, somehow (I must be getting better at long last) I made no mistakes at all in the performance. It is a nice clean performance, however Einaudi is best played on a nice long grand where you can really add variations to the tone/colour of the keys/notes when you play, kind of like a singing tone, which digital pianos unfortunately are unable to do. The key to playing Einaudi really well is the way in which you play the piano keys searching for different tones, because his music is so simple, it is all about how you play the actual piano keys themselves. This is my opinion anyway, I tried to play this piece the best I can for this performance though, I think for a digital piano performance it is as close as I would like to get anyway.

Time for another request. this piece was requested by someone who doesn´t want to be named ^.^ So, unknown person to anyone else: i hope you enjoy this cover :) I really really got to love this piece instantly. i am so thankful for requests because most of the time they introduce me to amazing music. It´s just too bad that there is so much work for me at the moment that i can´t play as much music as i´d like to. Anyway, about this piece: there is a lot of room for interpretation in it. i could have played it exactly as the recording that you can download anywhere, with the piano sample from the start playing throughout the whole piece. but i also listened to Einaudi playing it live in Dublin, and i like that live performance so much, i wanted to include some of that feeling in my cover. so i dont play 100% by the sheet music at some parts. around the end i play it more "rubato" which wouldn´t be possible with the piano sample playing throughout the piece. God.. so much talk ^^ Enjoy the piece! ~Alex
