Free mp3 download here: soundcloud.com Here's a Prince cover: vimeo.com My new album is available here: bit.ly you can stream my zombie opera here: www.gavincastleton.com Gavin Castleton performs a bedroom version of his "Sledgehammer" cover using Ableton Live 8, an FCB1010 midi foot controller, an M-Audio Trigger Finger, a Wurlitzer 200A eletric piano, and a Roland JP8000. All effects (including the vocoder which is being fed from a vocal delay aux send and the JP8000) are Ableton components. The audio was outsourced to another computer and multi-tracked for a much improved final mix (where some of the master cutouts were executed). Due to a total lack of budget (only 2 "cameras"), there are shots of earlier takes mixed in with the final take footage. There is a nod to Mos Def's "Do It Now" at the end.

Here's a little live looping thing I threw together today. All sounds are recorded live (nothing pre-recorded). Using two Gibson Echoplex Digital Pro (EDP) loopers, Strymon TimeLine and Boss DF-2 for my voice, and Line 6 AM4 and Strymon El Capistan for the guitar. I've moved on from just controlling a bassline, and now have it setup to a whole assortment of virtual instruments and loop them live to create entire tracks. The guys at Amptec (Moog distributor for the Netherlands and Belgium) were kind enough to let me try the Moog Guitar. It's the Paul Vo Collector edition. In this video I'm exploring it's feedbacking capabilities using the built in sustainer. The pedal I'm stepping on during the first part (the one on the right side) is the pedal that comes with the guitar. It controls the Moog filter that's inside the Moog Guitar. I am going try to be as detailed as I can in describing for you here, the creative and technical process I went through to produce this video. First of all, the guitar I am using is a Cordoba 55FCE. It's a thin body nylon string acoustic/electric. It has an under the saddle pick up in combination with a small mic built into the body. The built-in mic gives the guitar a more full-bodied sound. Actually, before I purchase this guitar, I was surprised by how full it sounded. Usually thin bodies and under-the-saddle pick-ups sound way to nasal for my tastes. Next, You might notice that my guitar is plugged into an electronic device on the floor in front of me. This is called the Boss RC-50 Loop Station and is what makes this song possible. It allows my to record and playback different guitar parts in a real time performance. There are no prerecorded backing tracks in this video. All the sound you hear were created on the fly during the performance. You may have noticed my feet pressing the pedals of the RC-50 throughout the performance. These pedals control the real-time recording, looping, and playback functions. I start out with just one layer and then add more as the song progresses. If you listen and pay attention to when the different guitar parts come in you should be able to count up to 6 different layers in addition to the live layer by the end of the song.
