A growing number of rap artists are leaving the bad boy hip hop lifestyle for a more spiritual one. The Canadian Dawah Association says that an increasing number of rappers this year have embraced Islam or acknowledged they had in the past. Amir Junaid Muhadith, better known by his stage name, Loon, talks to Al Jazeera's Sami Zeidan about his spiritual journey.

Amir Junaid Muhaddith, formerly known as Loon, the famous rap artist, born and raised in Harlem, gives an insight into the true value of Islam. This is the second of a series of 3 talks given by brother Amir (Loon) in his first ever Queensland, Australia tour. "In Pursuit of Happiness" revolves around three concepts: 1) When you are given you are thankful. 2) When you are tested you are patient. 3) When you have committed a sin you repent and seek forgiveness. He changed his name to Amir Junaid Muhadith. He recently traveled to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest and most sacred site of the Islamic religion, to perform Umrah. In 2004, Loon left Bad Boy to start his own label, Boss Up Entertainment. Loon started his music career as a member of Mase's rap collective Harlem World. Along with his music Loon has also been featured in two movies directed by Damon Dash, State Property 2 and Death of a Dynasty. Loon has recently converted to Islam. Born in a Christian family, Chauncey Lamont Hawkins changed his name to Amir Junaid Muhadith after converting to Islam. He recently travelled to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest and most sacred site of the Islamic religion, to perform Umrah. He has since ended his career from rap, and right now is focusing on seeking knowledge and giving Da'wa. He says that he has found peace in Islam which in his opinion money could not buy.
