Union Pacific No. 844 departed Bald Knob Arkansas today, what an amazing piece of machinery! Just as th' 844 was leaving, I drove to th' Bald Knob Airport where my buddy Joe Sims was standing by with th' Citabria. We gave chase and flew over 20 miles at about 120mph to catch up! Th' air was a lil' bumpy and hazy, but we got a few good shots. Thanks for watchin' Have a goodun' D-Ray

Lunging locomotives finally grip the rails as CSX 419 stalls. PART I... Read story...

CSX 419 & 411 with loaded coal train V605 stalls coming off the Salsbury Branch just outside Meyersdale, PA. The engineer informs the dispatcher that they have no sand. Watch closely as these two brutt AC4400 actually lunge, and bounce up and down trying to get traction coming up the steep grade of the branch to the mainline. With the locomotives in #8 notch, the hood doors viberate, and you can here the wheels grinding in the sand. It may be a slow video, but you will see what it takes to get this train rolling. The crew in the helper engines never left the comfort of their warm cab in the 19 degree weather. The crew, and some railfans hand sand the rails, and V605 backs up to get a second run for it, and finally makes it out. The whole ordeal to well over an hour. There is now a second clip (PART II) of the progress of the train heading west before it heads east to Cumberland, MD. We are at Greensburg PA. on the ex-PRR Pittsburgh mainline. The conversion with the crew and the dispatcher reported problems with the lead locomotive. Just east of the station platform, the heavy ore train comes to a stop to have the problem looked at by a Conrail employee. After a lengthy stay, the heavy train gets moving again. The four Conrail (6755-6759-6492-6049) locomotives ease the train into motion. I Varity of nice little friction bearing ore jennies pass with PRR-PC-CR markings. By the time the rear end helpers pass, the two Conrail SD40-2's, 6359-6364 roar past in the eight notch, but still at a slow 20 mph, and trying to get up to track speed. Our narrow gauge engine 505 proved to be in good order, which despite its rather poor fuel (definitely not coal) always had a good boiler pressure. The track of the narrow gauge line towards the ore mine was checked and found to be in "good" order. The mine didn´t work, but the train is in service! A real juwel!

Interail locomotive 42206 is seen before dawn in the Dynon Freight yards preparing to attach to a QR National (QRN) freight train which has just arrived from Adelaide. Once attached the locomotive will shunt the train so the shipping containers can be unloaded. Interail is part of QR National railways. The 422 Class were delivered to their original owners, the New South Wales Government Railways during 1969 & 1970 and. I caught this on March 9, 2012 when I happened to be in the area of CP5 in Ridgefield park, NJ. It's an ex Burlington Northern SD40-2 converted to burn natural gas.
