Porcupine Tree Biography Porcupine Tree is unquestionably one of the most difficult-to-categorize and innovative bands working today. The band is fronted by Steven Wilson, who also is well-known for his work producing other artists, from Swedish progressive metal group Opeth, to Norwegian chanteuse Anja Garbarek. He also has several other projects, including No-Man, Bass Communion, and Blackfield. Porcupine Tree was founded as a self-indulgent creative outlet for Wilson, and the first major release was 'On the Sunday of Life...' in 1992, an album of psychedelia and studio experiments which bears little relation to the band's current sound. From here, Wilson expanded the sound, creating the progressive rock/ambient trance fusion on the 30-minute long single "Voyage 34." One of the only constants in Porcupine Tree's music is how it continues to evolve and confront the expectations of the band's fans from album to album. In late 1993, the solo project became a band, as Colin Edwin (bass), Chris Maitland (drums), and Richard Barbieri (keyboards) were recruited to enable Porcupine Tree to perform live. Lazarus AD are Victims of Robbery in the UK LAZARUS AD is the most recent casualty in a slew of unfortunate band robberies to claim theft of their personal items and money from their touring van. The incident took place last night in Southampton, UK. After breaking a window to enter the band's van, the burglars stole roughly $1500 in cash, all of the bands personal items including Social Security cards, birth certificates, and clothing, and even their personal hygiene items. The band members luckily had their passports in their pockets and their gear inside the venue; otherwise they fear that those items would have been taken as well. LAZARUS AD have many dates remaining on their tour with Bonded By Blood, so having no money or personal items will be a great strain on the band financially and personally. Lazarus Taxon: Rediscovered Extinct Animals!
Song: Fade Away by Seether Lazarus taxon are species which were declared extinct in 1 or more period of time but rediscovered again. They are different with living fossils. Living fossils are species known only from fossil before living individual was found. Example of lazarus species is Painted Frog, extinct in 1995 but found again in 2006. Example of living fossil is Coelacanth, extinct million years ago but rediscovered.

Lazarus
"Lazarus" is a sister tune - a very close one - to the better known "Star Of The County Down". Their common ancestry is probably a tune from the early 1700s called "Gilderoy" which is either of English or Scottish origin. Ralph Vaughan Williams also used the tune for his "Five Variants On Dives And Lazarus" composition. I took this version of the tune and the chord structure from an influential book of folk songs called "English County Songs" published in 1893 and compiled and annotated by Lucy E. Broadwood and JA Fuller Maitland. (Lucy Broadwood was a close friend of Vaughan Williams). The chords have a very church-like quality to them. I've arranged it in D (Bm, to be precise) - it's given in G (Em) in the book - and I play it here on tenor guitar, guitar and cello. The first verse goes: "As it fell out upon one day, Rich Diverus he made a feast; And he invited all his friends, And gentry of the best. And it fell out upon one day, Poor Lazarus he was so poor, He came and laid him down and down, Ev'n down at Diverus' door." [Repeat last two lines] A simple tab melody line for standard guitar and a music notated melody line, with chords, is available on my website from: www.mjra.net

Zod is the new project from Rebels boss Damian Lazarus and James What. Debut warped production 'Rise Before Zod' is about to land on Rebellion with a diverse duo of remixes from Acid Pauli and Shadow Dancer. The original 'Rise Before Zod' is a psychedelic trip into dubby sounds that come from deep in the jungle, held together by a killer groove. Dark and groovy, it's the first brainchild from two producers with a proclivity for the left of centre. Paul and Al Farrier aka Shadow Dancer step up for the first remix. Signed to Boyz Noize, the pair injects a heavy dose of uplifting synth lasers, rave stabs and lick of acid, taking the track from the cave to neon club. With the Acid Pauli installment it's back to nature with tribal rhythms, electronic droplets and sparse arrangements that build into a richly padded sound bed of bass, strings and drums. One of Damian's all time favourite DJs, Acid Pauli was a resident at Bar25 in Berlin and is currently preparing his debut artist album for Clown & Sunset, out later this year. Damian Lazarus and James What created Zod when they were hanging out in sunny LA before Burning Man 2011, where the original was first broadcast from the Robot Heart stage. Rebels boss and A+R magnate Damian is known as an artist of many shades with an eclectic range of other-worldly records reflected in his DJ sets, podcasts and mix compilations and original material that goes way beyond the dancefloor.
