Google Tech Talks November 12, 2008 ABSTRACT How fast Web pages load and how fast they change dynamically depends on both the Web page and the browser it's running in. Browser makers put significant effort into making their browsers faster, but there are also things that Web page authors can do to make their pages more responsive. I plan to talk about HTML, CSS, and the DOM in Mozilla, from the DOM tree and CSS style sheets through to displaying pixels on the screen. In particular, what do Mozilla-based browsers spend the time doing when they're displaying a Web page? Which parts of this work are redone when the page is changed by script? And what implications does this have for how authors can make their pages faster, and for how authors can test the performance of their pages? Speaker: David Baron David is a software engineer at Mozilla Corporation, where he works on Mozilla's implementations of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and layout algorithms (computing the positions of objects), fixing memory leaks, and other things. He has been working on Mozilla since 1998, and is a member of the W3C CSS working group.

Denavit-Hartenberg Reference Frame Layout
This video demonstrates use of the Denavit-Hartenberg convention for defining the reference frames of a kinematic chain. In short, the z-axis for each joint is placed along its axis of motion, and then the x-axes are placed along the common normals between these z-axes. Then four parameters are used to specify the transformation between each of these frames: • d - the "depth" along the previous joint's z axis • θ (theta) - the rotation about the previous z (the angle between the common normal and the previous x axis) • r - the radius of the new origin about the previous z (the length of the common normal) • α (alpha) - the rotation about the new x axis (the common normal) to align the old z to the new z. This is a 1930's style model railroad called Douglassville Locomotive Works (DLW for short). This layout is located in Douglassville, PA. It took the owner, Jay Matz (and friends), 20 years to build this large layout, and it is still expanding! The City Edge Layout - Street Running Scenes - by Vic Smith
This 10 minute video highlights the City Edge layout created and built by Vic Smith. This layout is located near Lambert International Airport in Bridgeton, Mo, a suburb of St. Louis. Featuring street running and Kato's Amtrak night running scenes along with Broadway's Union Pacific AC6000's transporting Athearn and Intermountain double stack units across the city's elevated rail structure by Micro Engineering. Along with a nostalgic trip of Broadway Limited Santa Fe's War Bonnet F7's pulling a set of lighted California Zephyr cars while a trio of NW2 switcher engines carefully perform some street running down Market Street. This layout runs a variety of trains and rolling stock from many different eras for a wide range of entertainment for layout visitors. New HD video of the layout will be available with an array of prototype scenes set in the 1980's.
New YouTube Layout SUCKS!!! ... for now
The new YouTube Layout Sucks, The Layout, the New one for YouTube is by far the worst thing I have ever seen on this site. Anyhow. What are your thoughts on this? Things that need changing are mentioned below. Sadly this is not all of the changes coming this week. Other big things are coming. (They better be good). There is no way to revert back to the old YouTube. This is the new layout and it is being launched out of beta testing this week. 1. Go back to the old Layout 2. Allow Partners to have branding options, I like my banner and I intend to keep it. 3. When clicking on Video Responses, allow those to open a new tab or give option to because it will make it easier to accept and not worry if when they click the video responses it will go off your video and thats it. You have the option to open new window on annotations, please do the same for the video responses that people can allow approved on their videos. 4. Go back to the old layout (oops I said that) 5. MySpace is dead, if you want YouTube to die too then please continue the new layout but I do not approve it. 6. Subscriptions are horribly placed. If someone uploads multiple videos a day it will now cover the homepage and people will unsubscribe to those people. It was better than you can see the row of 4 videos by the same uploader. 7. Listen to the community, they do not want this change and if you don't listen you'll lose users fast. If facebook opens something liek the old YouTube then YouTube will go down ...
