BILBOA, Spain (CNN/ATLAS) - High winds in Bilbao, Spain, made normally routine landings treacherous for airplanes Wednesday. Some airplanes were able to land, making for a bumpy ride for passengers. But at least four other flights had to be diverted from the airport. Several Spanish coastal towns were hit with windy weather, but there was minimal damage.

Wingsuit landing without deploying a parachute - Gary Connery

A stuntman has made aviation history by becoming the first skydiver in the world to land without the use of a parachute. Gary Connery, 42, from Oxfordshire, leapt from a helicopter a mile above Henley then glided down using a specially adapted wing suit before landing on a "runway" of 18000 cardboard boxes. "It was so comfortable, so soft. My calculations obviously worked out and I'm glad they did," he told Sky News afterwards. His wife Vivian said she was "relieved its all over". To prepare for the jump he underwent weeks of intensive training in Switzerland and Italy, leaping from mountains and cliffs to perfect his wing suit glide angle. As part of the preparations, Mr Connery studied the flight of kite birds and how they use their tail to control their flight direction. "Kites steer by twisting their tail one way or another and I'll be doing the same," he explained before the jump. Gary Connery Mr Connery made his first parachute jump aged 23 after joining the Army. He went on to become a professional stuntman, completing 880 skydives and 450 base jumps. Mad Piloting Landing Skills Through Extremely Windy Weather

Extremely high winds in northern Spain tested the skills of pilots as they landed in extreme conditions that swayed planes and frightened passengers. Video footage captured planes landing at Bilbao's Loiu Airport in sweeping winds which forced some pilots to abort the landing process. The Basque country registered winds of over 81 miles per hour (130 kilometers) . The State Meteorological Agency said winds reached up to 40 miles per hour (65 kilometers) at Loiu Airport, the daily Diario Vasco reported. AENA, the airport authority said high winds had affected air travel resulting in four aircraft being re-routed to different airports. Bilbao's airport, however, remained open throughout the bad weather. There were no cancellations but the conditions forced pilots to use their skills. AMC Airlines MD-83 Crash Landing

AMC airlines MD-83 crash landed at Karachi International Airport on 25th December 2011 0950Hrs. Nose landing gear was unable to extend and hence aircraft had to perform nose gear up landing. It was a charter flight from Tabuk(KSA) to Quetta(Pakistan). Due to low fuel emergency was declared and aircraft landed at runway 25L. No injuries were reported. Poland crash landing: Boeing 767 touches down without wheels in Warsaw

A Boeing 767 from Newark, New Jersey with 230 passengers onboard made an emergency landing in Warsaw after its landing gear failed to open. The plane landed on its belly without its wheels. None of the passengers was injured. The pilots circled above the airport for about an hour before crash landing after they discovered a problem with landing gear. After more than 30 years, the space shuttle era has come to a close. Space shuttle Atlantis and the STS-135 crew landed safely on runway 15 at 5:57 am EDT at Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida, ending a 13-day journey of more than five million miles. It was the final and 133rd landing in shuttle history. The STS-135 crew consisted of Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley, Mission Specialists Sandra Magnus and Rex Walheim.

'Miracle' landing without nose gear: Iran Air ace saves lives on Boeing 727

Captain Hooshang Shahbazi's piloting skill saved the lives of some 94 passengers and 19 crew members. Footage of the miraculous landing on October 18 became an internet sensation and Shahbazi's Facebook page ( www.facebook.com ) has attracted hundreds of new friends. The flight IR-742 from Moscow, Sheremetyevo was on approach to Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport around when the crew did not receive a down and locked indication for the nose gear and aborted the approach. Following unsuccessful troubleshooting the crew decided to divert to Tehran's Mehrabad Airport where a low approach confirmed the nose gear was not extended. The crew subsequently performed a landing without the nose gear and came to a stand still on both main gear and the nose of the aircraft. The aircraft was evacuated, no injuries occurred. Footage shows Boeing 767 emergency landing in Warsaw

A Boeing 767 with 230 people on board has made an emergency landing at Warsaw airport, apparently without its landing gear. It appears the Polish Lot aircraft, en route from New York, circled the city to burn up fuel and allow emergency crews to gather in preparation for the landing. A spokesman for the airline said none of the passengers was injured.

On January 6, 2012, I went over to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to shoot some airplanes. I got one Qantas Airbus A380 landing (Qantas flight QF11 from Sydney) and another A380 taking off. The one I labeled as Qantas flight QF107 to New York is probably incorrect. It is more likely that it was a flight to Australia, but it may have been unpublished on the Qantas website that day. Anyway, it was interesting to see two A380s at the airport at once.
